FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) -- The fate of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez is now in the hands of a jury, which began its first full day of deliberations Wednesday in his murder trial.

Hernandez is charged with the June 2013 shooting death of Odin Lloyd, who was dating his fiancee's sister. Lloyd was shot six times in an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez's home. At the time, the star tight end had a $40 million contract with the Patriots.

Twelve jurors returned to deliberate Wednesday morning after getting the case Tuesday afternoon. Hernandez was briefly brought into court during the morning proceeding at the Fall River Justice Center. He is being held in a cell at the courthouse to await word on a verdict.

Later, he returned to court briefly while lawyers and the judge hashed out disagreements over certain exhibits before they were given to jurors.

The judge overruled the defense's request to block a picture of the redacted final text messages Lloyd sent to his sister. In the messages, Lloyd tells his sister he is with "NFL." He was dead within minutes of sending his final message.

Previously, the judge said the jury would not be allowed to see the content of the texts, but she did allow the timestamps.

Deliberations begin at 9 a.m. and go until 4:30 p.m., or later if jurors wish. They must come to a unanimous decision and are considering three charges: murder, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The murder charge carries a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if he is found guilty of 1st-degree murder, or life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years if he is found guilty of 2nd-degree murder.

His lawyer acknowledged for the first time Tuesday that Hernandez was there when Lloyd was killed. But he described him as a 23-year-old kid who did not know what to do. He pinned the killing on two of Hernandez's friends, co-defendants Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz. Both men have pleaded not guilty and will be tried later.

Prosecutors say Hernandez planned the crime, drove Lloyd to a secluded area, killed him, and then tried to cover it up.

I can't see it. His own attorney puts him at the scene when it happened. He's so confused and upset he's having drinks poolside later in the day with the other two suspects?

Was defense saying AH was there all along and witness the murder or just threw that out there in closing testimony trying to get a reasonable doubt?

very pathetic attempt if that was the case and I would say goes against AH than for him.

Without the home footage he would be off. How you gonna spend rest of your life in prision cuz u didnt cut off your own surveillance system. He obviously knew how to to disable it because the minutes when they are in the basement after the murder there is no footage then it comes back on in the morning

Yeah first time all trial they said he witnessed it and was there. They seem to think that since there's no murder weapon. No motive and no eye witness that they don't need to present a possibility because they can shoot down most of the prosecutions points.

I thought the closing arguments was good until I heard that shit. They proved most of the prosecutions evidence to be speculation

Yeah but no proof there was a gun in that. Just speculation. I'm not defending hernandez. But most of the case is speculation that the prosecution wants the jury to fill in the blanks. But if not for the day after footage when they are dapping each other up and hugging and chilling all day he would be off. That footage of doing nothing is the most important part of the case

This is just a math problem. (.01)(.01)(.01)(.01)(.01)(.01)(.01)= a pretty small number that he's innocent. If he doesn't get convicted, then there needs to be classes taught to the public about what reasonable doubt means.

Speculation is what you do when you investigate. You add up all the independent pieces of circumstantial evidence, you are left with there's no chance the guy is innocent. If you don't have a confession, it's ok to connect the dots and figure out what happened. Fry this sociopath.

They want the jury to believe he killed someone because he was starring at them in a club. Or because lloyd shunned Bradley at hernandez home. You don't need motive but you do need beyond reasonable doubt and motive helps that conclusion.

The prosecution breaking down how lloyd was shot was crazy. Wallace and Ortiz opening his door as hernandez went around to his door and shot him

Even if he gets off, the 2012 murders are supposed to be a slam dunk from what I've read
