When Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh as their head football coach, they gave him a salary of $5 million per year which made him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten. Well, Ohio State would have nothing of that so they gave Urban Meyer a contract extension through 2020 that pays the Buckeye coach an average of $6.5 million per year. Meyer is now the second highest paid coach in college football.

The Ohio State/Michigan battle continues..........................

If I'm a college football or basketball coach, I want Jimmy Sexton as my agent.

His clients are some of the highest paid in the college sports world...especially his high profile clients.

Saban and Meyer to name a couple.

It appears that Harbaugh will now be able to afford some game-day, sideline trousers, a notch or two up from the "George" label sold by Wal-Mart.

I believe Urban Meyer is the best coach in college football "Today". What he has done at Ohio State is amazing. 38-3 record and 24-0 in Big Ten regular season play plus a national title.

The man's overall record is 142-26 and his .845 winning percentage leads all college coaches. He has won three national championships and has been a winner at all four of his stops as a head coach.

Salaries are getting out of hand but schools will pay what the market demands...Meyer certainly deserves to be well paid.

Some would say that his accomplishments at tOSU are greater than his brief exploits in the SEC. I tend to agree with that assessment however I am anxious to see how he fares in a stronger conference over time. He has been tested but his tenure in a strong conference as one of it's elite programs is still in question to a point because his endurance in one of the most competitive conferences has not been tested well enough -- such as how Saban has been tested. I realize that his record is exemplary however one must question the divisional strength and his consistency among top contenders to get the full picture.

And yes clover, the money is good. Too good?

Meyer is much better. Harbaugh will be a bust this time thorough and head back to the NFL.

The major question that Conan brings up is just when will the Big 10 become a stronger conference. Right now, Wisconsin and Nebraska are just kind of wandering around in the West. The rest of the Division has upset capabilities, but that is about it. Michigan State remains the biggest challenge to Ohio State. If Michigan does not start winning against MSU on a consistent basis, they will never catch them, much less pass them up and catch Ohio State.

Bucks, Meyer knows what it takes to win in the SEC and he is bringing that same type plan/operation to Columbus....especially in the type players he recruits.

Watch how Meyer and staff have recruited...beginning to look like SEC teams with big, strong defensive linemen and linebackers.

I agree, the make up of the team has really changed. I was not sold on him when he first got there, but he has impressed me. My expectaions are a little higher this year then last, i do expect to make the playoff, then we will see where it goes. I think last year with the QB situation it created almost a perfect storm. The team rallied behind jones and picked up their game and it was a big advantage in the Bama game with no film on him. I am not sure osu beats bama w/o that situation. Its hard to prepare for a QB with no film, some will not get that but a big part of the game is preparation. These are young kids, as gifted as they are athletically, when thrown in to the arena it is hard to make a lot of adjustments for something you don't know what to expect at the onset.

Was talking with my father in law last night, he is an SEC guy from Tennessee. We have been watching a lot of the Vols softball and talking about that. My daughters HS friend pitches for them, so when she is on the mound he will text me to watch the game. She got drilled by LSU saturday..he is excited to see what the Vols will do as am I. They wont surprise anyone this year and they are very improved. I like the QB and as he pointed out to me, they just beat out ohio state for a kid from NJ i think.. he also roots for Bama, so he and my wife had some fun the night of the game. Told him I would not speak to him as he rooted for bama against osu! Also have an eye on Ole Miss, Engram kid is son of a HS friend, just not sure what their QB situation will be this year. I almost think anything could be an improvement..

Bucks, my sister is an Auburn graduate who knows/understands football better than most...especially high school and college. She has a son who will be a hose in recruiting in a couple of years.

I'm an Alabama fan...we don't argue, dislike each other, or even make fun of the others team. But come Iron Bowl week, it ain't about us being relatives.......little if any talk and just hoping our team wins.

I love the SEC because of the rivalries ....and all over the college football landscape....my sister and my story plays out.

A bust? I wouldn't bet on that. I dont think he's going to get instant success, but they already play good d, so Id expect some good competitive games.

Damn dude. Why dont you just convert and get it over with. You're so conference-deprecating....not very SECish of you. Come to think of it you might not fit in so well afterall.

RLR.. that made me laugh... do you really think the Big is or has been very good as a conference? If you take away OSU and MSU what really has there been?

Big-10 is top heavy no doubt PAC is better top to bottom, but its similar to the PAC in that there's really only one team in each conference with a shot to win it all. Ohio St. in the Big-10 and USC in the PAC.

It's very interesting to note that the B1G is about as top heavy as the Pac was when it was referred to as USC and the 9 dwarfs. That situation cost the Trojans in a big way because they were viewed to have a very weak SOS despite their willingness to travel to play tOSU, Auburn, Arkansas, etc. USC was viewed by many as having a tougher OOC schedule to make up for the lack of competitive opponents in conference play... (By the way, that had nothing to do with the reason why USC played a tougher OOC slate. They did so because they have always stacked their OOC schedule with top opponents regardless of overall conference strength.) However as is the case with tOSU's conference schedule, every conference loss hurts them worse than most other national contenders in other conferences. They are almost guaranteed to be disqualified from NC consideration if they don't go undefeated in conference play most years.

One more interesting note about tOSU...
They had a devil of a time trying to defeat ANY SEC team every time they scheduled one or played one in a bowl game going back many years. Enter Urban Meyer, an old SEC HC with a NC trophy to show for his efforts at Florida. Now it appears that tOSU has turned the tables on SEC opponents by recently beating the best the SEC has to offer. So much for that old trend.
