In my ongoing search for apartments I specifically like, I am going out there for a week in May to see them, this is my new favorite. Is this area relatively safe? Would appreciate your honest analysis.

If you have any suggestions for any apartments in safe areas in Vegas ranging from $600 to $800 a month let me know. 1 bedroom apartments. Thank you all.

That area is ok shouldn't have a problem. BAS's recommendation on Green Valley Prky is probably a couple of notches better, surrounding neighborhood area much better and traffic better. Look into that one for sure.

Suggested safe areas in between 5 to 10 miles of the strip? And if you guys have any apartment complexes from your experience you know are meaningful, would appreciate hearing about them.

It's alright. Can't go wrong with this one either. Area is a little somewhat undeveloped and if surrounding area landscaping is of no difference to you then this one is good. If the economy picks up then this area will be getting more industrial development. So far out of all that's been mentioned the first one you mentioned would be at the bottom of the list.

First place I stayed at when I arrived here is an apartment complex now known as Sterling Sahara. 1655 E. Sahara. I didn't know anything moving here. It was alright and served it's purpose considering I moved into a house a year later. This thread is bringing back some memories of that place so I will share what I remember. This is not a recommendation of the place but rather just some memories and experiences I wish to share.

These apartments had three floors, I was at the top. Carrying furniture three flights of stairs is a bitch. I remember this nice old couple talking to my wife and I first day we arrived as we were unloading the U-haul. He was a retired psychologist and was very nice. He would give us free buffet coupons to the Sahara which we took advantage of but it didn't take too long for our waistlines to suffer for our sins of gluttony. We visited a few times but soon after we found work, the less we saw of them.

I remember the walls being thin and hearing the girl next door come home late and fuck this one guys brains out.

I remember this one lady across from us who was nice and my wife would talk to her a few times but she ended up moving not long after we moved in.

The young guy downstairs from us sure liked his Asian music and played it loud sometimes but one day he was gone too. Then a crazy lady moved in below us and I recall hearing her slamming her kitchen cabinets. At first I was like wtf because she would do it loud and would slam 'em like a son-of-a-bitch. After a few times I asked my wife if she thought maybe she was doing it on purpose trying to get our attention as if maybe we were making too much noise. I was thinking maybe we were walking too loudly but we've lived in apartments before and I'm very courteous of my neighbors so I always made a point to be respectful and not be loud on not stomp when I walk. Well, one day I heard thumping below our floor as if she was hitting a broom stick on her ceiling. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what her problem was and just reasoned she was crazy and not to confront her. One night we were leaving and as we were approaching the second level walking down to the first level the crazy lady's door opens and she stands there and stares at us, my wife just real loudly says, "Yeah?!",,,then SLAM her door went. It was just bizarre but I really didn't let it bother me since I knew we were already looking for a house.

One night I went across the street where there was a bar and had a couple of drinks. I met one of the apartment maintenance guys there and he was telling me some things which I can't remember all but one story he told sticks in my mind and it had to do with this old guy that either died at the apartment or he was taken to a hospital and later died, I can't remember... well anyways, when he had to go in the apartment and start clearing it out because I guess the old guy didn't have any contacts or something like that, he found something like 3 or 4 pocket pussies stapled to the toilet seat. Yes you read correctly, STAPLED....to the toilet seat. Try picturing that. Just weird.

Ok I don't want of offend any bird lovers around here but pigeons are flying rats! Geezus was the parking lot full of pigeon shit all the time. The parking area had carports for all the residents. One morning I saw this lady throwing bird seed, bread crumbs out from here second floor balcony onto the top of the carport roof. That kinda pissed me off I remember.

The air conditioner didn't work one time and it didn't get fixed in the dead of summer for about a week. The water would get shut off periodically and one time it was about 4 days. I apologized to my boss because I had sink showers at work. I remember people going down to the pool area and getting buckets of water to carry to their apartments to take a bath. They would come back and forth with these buckets of water until they had enough for a bath. Reason given I remember was because of tree roots around the apartment complex kept fucking up the water pipes underground.

One weekend I was drinking out on the balcony and a building across and down from me this black guy yelled out hello to me. I said hello back. We were talking for a bit and he finally said to come over. He seemed friendly and nice enough and after a few drinks I get social. I come over and I can't remember what we all talked about but we were both drinking and I recall the sun starting to come up. He was playing Jackson Five music and was talking about how Michael Jackson was the greatest ever was and was telling me about meanings behind some of the music. He was playing his music pretty loud and it irritated me somewhat because like I said before I'm a little bit more considerate of thy neighbors or at least try to be. Then out comes his wife all very tired and I remember feeling apologetic and she got some water and went back to bed. That's when things started to turn. He looked at me and asked me if I wanted to fuck her. He said it would be ok. He wasn't pushing it but just kinda letting me know it would be alright to fuck his wife if I wanted. I remember ending it not too long after and said I was tired and needed some sleep so I left. Said hello a few more times from my balcony and we talked for a bit but I never went back to his apartment.

I remember one time hearing this girl and guy talk out on the steps and it didn't take long to figure out the conversation. It had to do with what I think she wanted to stop prostituting and the other guy was her pimp. I remember her crying.

The mail was delivered to the club house and everyone had their own mailbox. One day all the boxes were broken into and all the mail was stolen.

Nothing else is really coming to mind but I have to tell ya, moving into a house was never so sweet.

Experiences and Memories of Sterling Sahara: (Side B)

I do remember getting very sick with the flu very bad while there. Very memorable because prior to that the sickest that ever stood out in my memory was when I was about 5 years old with the flu. Those two times in my life were killer. Had the flu before but those two times were the very worst.

Every once in a great while I get on a sunflower seeds kick. While there one night sitting out on the balcony I spit a whole bunch of sunflower seed shells into a cup. When I was ready to go to bed I set the cup on the kitchen counter. When I woke up the next morning there was a big trail of red ants leading to the cup of sunflower seed shells to the kitchen window and out to the balcony and down the wall to the ground outside, 3 story apartment. I never seen so many red ants. This has since happened again after I've moved into my house now. Red ants sure love sunflower seed shells. I don't know if its the salt that attracts them? I don't know. Never leave a cup of spit out sunflower seed shells out overnight in the house/apartment.

More memory is coming to me about that crazy lady who slammed her kitchen cabinets below us. As I recall I do remember a time or two when my wife was in the kitchen and she'd get something out of the cupboard and close it (hardly making much noise at all) the lady downstairs would slam hers. So I remember telling my wife to do it again just like she did and Wham-o the lady would slam her cupboard door harder. It was so unreal. My wife did just a normal open and shut of the cabinet but that lady downstairs for whatever reason it was took offense. I remember now trying to be extra quiet about it afterwards. I didn't want to cause any waves around apartment complexes and like I said, my main focus was getting the fuck out of there and getting into a house.

FWIW I’m not a fan of the Summerlin area. I consider the Green Valley area a better choice. It’s closer to the Strip and Airport. It’s also in Henderson. You pay more if you have Las Vegas zip code IE car insurance. All apartment complexes offer the same amenities.

You may want to consider renting a house. You can get a 2 bedroom for about the same amount as an apartment.

Before you come out you may want to call a realtor and tell them you’re looking to rent and eventually buy. Let them do the leg work for you.

reviews tend to be written by :
1] residents so pissed off that they are motivated to write a review to get some form of satisfaction
2] apt. complex staff in order to try and make their facility rate higher
