Rory McIlroy favorite to win U.S. Open at 6-1 over Jordan Spieth (8-1)

  • David Purdum, ESPN.com

Jordan Spieth ran away with the Masters, but in the eyes of one Las Vegas oddsmaker, Rory McIlroy is still the man to beat at the U.S. Open.
On Monday, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook installed McIlory as a 6-1 favorite to win the U.S. Open.

</aside>Spieth opened at 8-1. McIlroy has been favored in six of the last seven majors. McIlroy and Spieth are the only golfers with single-digit odds at the SuperBook.
  • Tiger Woods, at 15-1, is the third choice to win the U.S. Open, which will be held June 18-21 at Chambers Bay golf court in University Place, Washington.
Spieth tied Woods' Masters scoring record at 18-under to win his first major title.
He finished six shots ahead of McIlroy. But Westgate assistant manager and golf specialist Jeff Sherman said McIlroy's body of work earned him the favorite role
    .
  • "McIlroy has a proven track record over time," Sherman told ESPN Chalk. "Spieth has had a rapid reaction in the odds market over the last year but not enough to overtake McIlroy ... yet."
Woods exceeded expectations at Augusta National, finishing 17th at 5-under. He said he'll take some time off at the Masters to continue to work on his game and allow his latest injury to heal.
Woods hurt his wrist when his club struck a tree root during Sunday's final round. He finished the tournament but acknowledged the injury.
Phil Mickelson, who finished tied for second with Justin Rose at the Masters, opened at 25-1 to win the U.S. Open, the only major tournament he hasn't won. Rose also is 25-1.
Defending U.S. Open champion Martin Kayer opened at 30-1.
