No, it's not one of the quarterbacks...at least according to several Big 10 coaches. It's a redshirt sophomore linebacker named Darron Lee. Lee is a former quarterback who has found a home on defense for the Buckeyes. During the Buckeyes 2014 championship season, Lee was third on the team in tackles with 81, and was second with 15 tackles for loss and 8 sacks. He also had 2 interceptions, broke up 5 passes, added 5 QB hurries, forced 2 fumbles and recovered another fumble. The former quarterback had a breakout year last season and much will be expected from him this season.

Coaches: "He's the best player on that team, and it's not even close. He's so explosive. If he's not making every tackle, he's in on every play and he's a phenomental blitzer."

I would agree completely. I have watched the Bama game numerous times and he was all over the field, stopping runs inside the tackles at the l.o.s., applying pressure on the QB and tackles for loss, making stops on the perimeter, and pass defense. They could not block him. He is undersized ( weight wise imo, at 6-2 he almost looks skinny, i have seem him listed anywhere from 210 to 235 and I think the 210 is accurate ) and as his body matures physically he will only become more of a force. He did just as well in the Oregon game, but I think using Alabama is a pretty good measuring stick when trying to see where a kid stacks up.

His freshman season was cut short due to injury and received a red-shirt. In high school he was actually a QB and played in the secondary. He was recruited as an athlete and I think they found a good spot for him, he could easily add another 20/25 pounds of muscle and it should not slow him down. One other note, he is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee but relocated to Ohio when he was in eighth grade as his mom took a job as a news anchor in Ohio. If he stays healthy his future is bright.

Meyer understands from his days in the SEC that you have to have a really good defense to win championships.

Barring a bunch of injuries...Ohio State should be pretty stout on D this season.
