Is This The Most Insensitive Prom Photo Ever?

Some Colorado teens are in trouble after their prom. Not because of their outfits; because of their photo props.

The photo in question, which Denver's Fox 31 reported was taken before Chapparal High School's prom last weekend, shows three boys and five girls posed around a Confederate flag. Two of the girls are holding guns, which appear to have some serious firepower.

Posing with one of the nation's most easily reconizable symbols of white supremacy and racial oppression as a lark — especially when there are ongoing protests against police brutality and institutional racism across the country — is seriously questionable. And, the mother of one of the boys told Fox31 that parents were encouraging the kids to ham it up with the flag and the guns. "There were other parents there fully supporting it and taking pictures,” she said.

Aside from the bad taste of posing with the Stars and Bars — are prom pictures with guns a thing now? Is this the next step after guns as wedding accessories?

Sad world this has become. I bet they are prettier and smarter than their counterparts. Of course someone needs to explain the meaning of "counterparts" to them.

Sweet kids.

Really though..... this is why kid's need to be brought up more like we were 40-50 years ago.

You know.... If a kid gets in trouble at school..... he gets blasted again when he gets home..... not the shit they do now..... Mom and Dad send an attorney to school to get little Johnny off the hook?

Those kids might not deserve to graduate with their class. Looks like they would probably not have enough brains to keep track of a diploma if they had one!

I was a lot more offended by the blacks at the college in Georgia defacing and walking all over an American flag everyday, but that's just me.

The flag bore its roots to the anti-slavery movement in the late 1800's just prior to the civil war, and the declaration of secession by South Carolina, and the new President of the US Abraham Lincoln.

It can be seen as a pro-slavery (Its how I view it) banner, since that's the reason that flag was made.

While I don't think this photo is insensitive, cause everyone has the right to take LEGAL photos, I do think it is in poor taste.

Take out the pro-slavery born flag, and there is nothing wrong with the picture.

3 guys and 5 girls, good odds. I have more of a problem with the guns in the picture than I do with the flag.

No. Nothing in the flag symbolizes slavery. No more than the American flag does. This hypersensitivity and default apologetic mode people fall into is exactly why black folks behave the way they do. Your unnecessary white guilt in fact contributes to them not tipping you. You owe them because there's a chance your great great great great grandpappy owned their great great great grandpappy despite the truth that less than 2% of Americans owned slaves. Not your fault, that's how most Americans have been trained to feel.

Nothing in the flags design even hints at slavery. The 13 stars are for the 13 southern states. The X is the symbol that they wanted out of the union. "X us outta this shit". Succession was not about slavery but rather states rights.

You do know that this flag was designed during the time of the southern states secession because of the anti-slavery movement and because during the Civil War, the original southern states flag "The Stars and Bars" resembled the United States flag to much it was causing confusion on the battlefield, and General Lee commissioned it as their "Battle Flag". And also this flag has become a beacon for skinheads, KKK and other white supremacy groups across the United States. It was born out of Anti-Slavery....

And the reason they want to secede cause of "States Rights" and to show "States Rights" was because of the North's Anti-Slavery movement and trying to abolish it.

So if a black guy wears a beret in his prom photo is undoubtedly a shout out to the black panther party? Gtfo

So you are comparing a goofy looking hat to a flag, and the Black Panthers to Confederates? You sound really intelligent.

Not at all, unless he is dressed in all black, giving the "Black Power salute" while wearing a "Black Panther" shirt.

But these kids, in COLORADO using a flag born out of the pro-slavery moment is in poor taste.

What reason can they give as to why they are using that flag as the centerpiece of their prop?
