The scathing Grantland article that came out today pretty much says it all. Weis was a complete disaster, and probably did more damge to a school in a short period of time than any other coach in modern history. Wow! It's almost like being on NCAA sanctions like USC, but without the 5 star recruits on a limited roster. This little excerpt pretty much says it all:
Basically Kansas will have 5 more scholarships plays than an FCS school does (63 is the FCS limit) next year. They open up the season against a very good FCS program South Dakota St, who from looking at their roster will have more upperclassmen. That has bad news written all over it. It will probably be their only winnable game since things gets much tougher after that. Man, I don't see how it's possible to F up a program more than Weis did. He gambled on having one great season to save his job by recruiting all JUCO's, and it backfired on him bigtime. Now the cupboard is bare. Are they still paying this dim wit?

- When Beaty arrived in December, he inherited just 42 scholarship players with eligibility remaining in 2015, just less than half of the NCAA’s 85-scholarship limit; based on the current roster, and after accounting for the 2015 recruiting class, the scholarship count heading into the season sits at 68, still nowhere near the cap. Of that number, the vast majority will be in their first or second year on campus: Only 20 of the 74 players signed in the 2011-13 classes remain, leaving the depth chart and the locker room largely devoid of a veteran presence.
