Speaking with media on Wednesday, former NFL quarterback Doug Williams raved about Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie quarterback Jameis Winston.

Williams and Winston have had a relationship ever since Winston won the Heisman Trophy two years ago.

I believe in him,” Williams said about the No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Williams also made a stunning statement regarding Winston’s personality, comparing him to the most recognizable basketball player on the planet:

"Doug Williams said only other person who handles spotlight like Jameis Winston is LeBron James. He has charisma coming out his ears,'" Tampa Bay Times reporter Greg Auman quoted Williams as saying.

The charisma Williams speaks of is undeniably evident. Wherever Winston goes, whomever he talks to, he’s almost always upbeat and eager to lift others into the emotional stratosphere where he dwells.

Williams has been around professional athletes for his entire adult life. He’s won a Super Bowl MVP for his contributions to Washington’s victory in Super Bowl XXII. Therefore, it would be wise to take him at his word.

Winston’s personality is off-the-charts dynamic. We’ll see soon enough if that ends up translating to wins for the Buccaneers on the gridiron when the season begins this fall.

He has impressed me so far for sure. Have seen him stepping up and calling out teammates for bonehead plays in addittion to making pretty good decisions on the field.

Winston’s quarterback rating rose to 86.5, the best ever for a rookie picked first overall and sixth all-time among rookies with at least 10 starts. He has averaged 7.7 yards per attempt, better than Andrew Luck in 2012 and just behind Cam Newton in 2011. Winston is on pace to throw 24 touchdowns, which would be third best all-time for a rookie, and 14 interceptions – half as many as Peyton Manning threw as a rookie. He is younger than a typical rookie, a 21-year-old who left Florida State after a redshirt year and two seasons as a starter. With one more victory, Winston will become the first quarterback to win six games in his age-21 season; only Drew Bledsoe in 1993 won five at age 21.
