Traveling to Nicaragua in two weeks. Can anyone tell me the easiest and most affordable way to get from Managua airport to San Juan del Sur? I'm your average stupid gringo, never been to Nicaragua.

You should be able to go by bus. Maybe a cab from the airport to the bus terminal to San Juan del sur. It shouldn't cost much at all. Also, a taxi straight to San Juan might be around $50 to $75 i think.

no spanish lol.
Wouldn't help you anyway. Nica Spanish is a whole other ball game. It's horrible. I know there is this one bus service call Transnica. The buses are nice looking. Very Professional, just not sure if they go to San Juan del Sur. Or they probably have collectives, minivans that take groups or one person if they pay the right amount. It's only 90 miles, so shouldn't be that much.

you are gonna love San Juan Del Sur. I have been there around 20 times. I only came from Costa Rica though so I can't be much help from Managua except to tell you that you need to stop off at Rivas. From there, you can take a chicken bus to SJDS or grab a taxi. The taxi won't be more than $8. I did it 4 months ago last time and they will immediately ask for $20. If you get lucky, you get a collectiva taxi where you share a ride to SJDS which will only be a couple bucks. But $8 isn't a lot. It takes about 20 minutes from Rivas.

Sorry...never heard of them. I've gone there from Costa Rica. Took Tica bus, and got off at Rivas. Then cabbed it to San Juan. Transnica as somebody posted can take you to Rivas as well from Managua. Won't cost much at all.

Sorry if I scared you. But you will struggle anytime you don't speak the native language. Thankfully, in tourist markets, people need to speak multiple languages. Just expect to pay for the service. I personally have never flown into Nicaragua. I have traveled through it by car when I helped somebody drive a car from the states. Yes, I speak fluent Spanish. To me it's indispensible. I personally wouldn't imagine trying to get from the airport to some bus terminal in downtown Managua that takes me to SJDS without being Spanish fluent....but shit it can be done. Perhaps the Airport has a TicaBus/TransNica terminal. Can't help you there. I'd bite the bullet and pay a shuttle directly....unless you want the experience, then go for it bro. Here is a shuttle that charges $40 directly for one person. If you aren't going alone, it gets cheaper. I guess the logical question is how much do you want to pay?

i'm not terribly concerned about paying what i need to to get to SJDS, as long as it isn't hundreds of dollars just for me. i'm just looking for the safest and most direct route possible, as i'm meeting people down there for a limited vacation. i'm just not trying to deal with any headaches in getting to where i need to be lol. so you think iskra is the way to go?

Hey, was in san jan del sur last week. Nice place, not expensive, always something to do at night. Not many local women but there are many tourist girls.
Take a taxi from Managua..what 50 or 70 bucks. You would need to take a taxi from Rivas anyhow Transnica doesnt go all the way to SJDS.
