Do you consider yourself a fan of a team because you're a fan of a certain player?

Had this argument with a friend the other day.

He stated "I hate these LeBron fans who think they are Cavs fans".

I came back with: Don't you have to be a "fan" of a team if you really like a certain player? You aren't going to root against the Cavs if you like LeBron.

Didn't make sense to me but he was a Bulls "fan" (really he just D. Rose fan) - but bottom line is he was just butt hurt and was bitching about LeBron but the whole fan of a player or team really had me thinking.:think2:

So you only like this Toronto Maple Leaf person? Is hockey still counting as a top 4 sport or has high school football taken that spot?

I live in a state that doesn't have any pro sports teams (its all ROLL TIDE Baby !) so its hard for me to be a homer for any team , but i often choose the teams i pull for and against according to players i like or dislike , coaches/managers i like or dislike , and even owners i like or dislike.

So YES , i could pull for a team just b/c i like a player , and then quit pulling for that team if the player left.

I'm the exact opposite. Because I like players-- Lebron is the perfect example, I like that team. I no longer care what the heat do, but I celebrated like I was a fan when Heat took down the championships.

Interesting... I see it both ways:

I've been a lifetime Celtics fan, but certain players drove me up a wall. Couldn't stand Antoine Walker, and Rondo had moments of brilliance, but most of the time
drove me crazy. Didn't really like Garnet's game when he played for the Celtics either... 7 footer shooting 20 foot bombs...

I like the Warriors right now pretty much because of Curry, and I like their coach.

Yeah haha , i meant to add that i also choose teams to root against according to obnoxious homers.

Nothing like an obnoxious homer to turn an innocent bystander into a hater.
