Let's say you're an average professional athlete.. made avg professional athlete money... You're at the end of your career...

How hard would it be for you to hang it up?
Would you play until your talents are below average? Would you be able to announce your final year in advance? Do how the season end matter?

I'd be happy to retire while still playing good but if abilities decrease is time to go. Id be happy to indulge in partying after all of those years of good behavior and abstinence... especially if I was an NFL player (LOL)

I would play until no one wanted me like Mike Golic. You are still a millionaire in your 30's and can always do something broadcast related yet never rely on a paycheck. If he wasn't a fatass, he is living almost the perfect life yet has below average talent as a player and zero talent as a radio guy. There are 1,000's of Golics around the country except the national audience thing.

There is a girl I met that is on TV in Orlando ( non sports related) originally from Indy. She admits I would be great on TV with my opinions.

Football would make it easier to retire..

But baseball.. I'm playing until I'm not on a major league team anymore... I would definitely have a hard time quitting.

I think everyone would have a hard time just quitting. You have to be all in just to see the field at an NFL level. And remember this is about average guys, not pro bowlers.
