Horse won for fun.....Top 10 for sure.

1-5 IMO Secretariat, Man o War, Whirlaway, Citation & Native Dancer

Then you have those who races till 6 or 7 like Kelso, Cigar, John Henry & Forgo who never
won in the triple crown but were alltime greats

I'd say what AF did was fantastic somewhere between 6 & 15 when his career ends.
Dr. Fager was ubeatable up to 1 1/8 mile he's 6th for me

He's pretty good. Won on the lead, won stalking, won in the slop, won on a fast track handful of different states...would love to see him in a real dogfight but nobody can get near him. He makes it look pretty easy

the problem with this question is its loaded, bc he won the TC and he is now worth more shooting loads than he is on the track. so we will never see what he is truly capable of. unfortunately he will be put out to stud way way to soon and its a shame bc he would attract crowds all across the US if he were to run

Yup, Baffert loved this horse before he ever raced, said it was his best horse ever, & the horse never ran a single race.

Will he be retired after winning the crown?

I would retire him, his breeding price is like $30 million? If I'm not mistaken.......

If he continues to run, I think he will do really well, I really think he won't lose at all this year if he continues in 2015.......

Baffert stated that he would take the lead coming out of the gate, & he did that, & wired the field opening up down the stretch, a great win for this horse, Espinoza the jockey & one of the greatest trainers ever IMO.......

He will likely race in the BC Classic and retire. They already have a deal in place and it has some clauses in the contract where if he does additional things the cost of the deal goes up. There hasn't been any details released on the contract to this point.

I will say overrated. When people go back to 2015 to examine the crop of 3 year olds, they will say it was one of the weakest ever. He was the right horse at the right time.

I don't have him in my top 25 at all.

Great accomplishment nonetheless. Not hating, just don't think history will be too kind in the end. They can't take away he won the races or ran the second fastest Belmont in history to this point.

I became a believer after he dusted the field in the rain at the Preakness -- and he didnt even break a sweat today.

I would say overrated since this was one of the weakest groups of 3 years olds that I've seen in the last few years.

He should have dusted the field in the Preakness. I think the horse that came second in the Preakness had just broken it's Maiden...There wasn't a very strong field of horses in either of the last 2 legs of the TC.

Good post. Many will be reacting to the 'recency' thing... he's a great horse no doubt but need to revisit this a year from now

somewhere 25th or so now

if he wins a summer classic and then the breeders cup classic as a 3 year old against some of these from last years great crop and older, and that overall record would move up to top 10 maybe 9th or 10th which is incredible.

It is kind of apples and oranges when you compare the modern era to those greats from the 1920's -1960s. Those G1 types ran 2 or 3 races a month! just a diff breed now...all dirt speed types now. But agree that if he ends up in Top 10 discussion, incredible status.
