I haven't seen a lot of her material, but 'The Heat' and 'Identity Thief' actually surprised me (in a good way)

Critics are loving Melissa McCarthy’s new spoof comedy “SPY”. Apparently, the gags are smart, genuinely funny, and the writing is good. It doesn’t hurt that she is surrounded by a great supporting cast: Jude law, Jason Stratham, Alison Janney, and Rose Byrne (from Bridesmaids).
