What are y'all using to convert DVD/Blu-Ray to mp4 for playback on Android?

Preferably something free.

I tried VidCoder and the videos come out looking like shit.

Looking to convert some dvd's to a watchable format on my phone. Help appreciated. :103631605

Just tried Any Video Converter and it works perfectly. So never mind I guess.

It is a little slow to convert. But the output quality is great.

Nope, only converts the first 3 minutes. I didn't pay very close attention at first.

Any recommendations on some free ones without limitation?

Isn't it quicker just to download what you want and get a Bonus Player to watch them?

For anyone who is interested, the problem I had with VidCoder and Handbrake was apparently a missing DLL. So if you plan to use Handbrake on Windows 7 you will probably have to follow the below easy instructions to fix it like I did.

http://www.jargonfreehelp.com/fixing-handbrake/

These instructions are wrong, you don't want to rename the dll.

If you follow the instructions exactly but do not rename the dll, it works.

I travel alot for work so I did alot of looking into this. Everything free is either garbage, super hard to use or a virus. I sucked it up and bought WinX DVD Platinum. It was like $30-$40 bucks (i forget) but worth every penny. Takes all the guess work out and basically 2 click ripping.

And I wouldn't waste your time with the BluRay ripping. You woun't notice any difference watching on a phone or tablet and the files would be massive. When I rip DVDs to a above average, not best, quality its about 1gb per movie. I now get promo codes and rent 3-4 redboxs movies at a time, rip them and bring them back. I'm upto about 350 movies and 12gb of music.

Handbrake is working well for me now, and it was free and clean.

But yes there is a lot of trash out there.

I'm not concerned about maintaining the blu-ray quality when ripping. Just want the movie I already own on blu-ray as mp4. Are you saying there isn't a way to rip from blu-ray to mp4 using the same output quality and file size that result when ripping from dvd?

I'm currently in process of ripping my dvd's, hadn't gotten to blu-ray yet.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, your going to have to change your handbreak settings. And you will either have to step down the HD quality or deal with the bigger file sizes.

The HD quality is not a big deal to me. I will probably convert one copy as HD and one as regular def, store both in the cloud, and put the reg def one on the desired mobile device.

Use this free app suite HC. - http://123apps.com/

For video encoding they have this nice free software - http://convert-video-online.com/

It is a bit slower, but its on the web so easy to use and the file conversion works perfectly w audio synced as well. You can convert from/to virtually all extensions and one of the few free ones that converts high resolution video extensions like .mkv to mp4/etc correctly.
Try it out :toast:
