Thank god. The Phillies are bad but he's an awful game day manager. I mean real bad.

Not really his fault. The team sold the entire farm system in 2008, 2009 to get one more ring.....and now they're paying for it. The Ryan Howard contract had nothing to do with Sandberg either.

Nobody is arguing that but if you watched this guy manage on a daily basis....it bordered on embarrassing. His in game decisions were terrible.

The team stinks.....no question but he also stinks.

He sucked as a manager....Not for him.

Walking off the job means he`ll never get another Managers job in the majors ever again.

From the games I watched, he seemed like a very good game manager. But I only watched about a dozen Phillies games this season. I really was hoping for better for him. Having said that, I was disappointed to see him quit like he did. So I can understand others ripping him. Bottom line is, Phillies suck and now it'll be fun to see if they rebound and make this season respectable.

Where is David Lee? One season and he goes asleep! Is he spending his 60 Zillion contract or re-happying?

I said probably years or beers b4 anyone was here that Howard, after watching him play as a WB-SCR Red Baron, He was a joke!

Todays game is not about the game!

BTW

2015 Rule Has the time-clock been used on Pitchers or batters stepping out of the box been used yet, in-between pitches?

How was his day to day decision making and player interaction in Iowa? Anybody know?

I don't, but really he would have been a perfect natural for the Cubs' job. The organization knew something, I'm sure, when he got passed over for Sveum.

The Philadelphia Phillies didn't change interim manager Pete Mackanin's job title Tuesday, but they did give him and the rest of the club a clearer idea what the rest of the season would look like.

When Mackanin took over for Ryne Sandberg on June 26 after the former manager resigned his position, the Phillies at first announced that the Mackanin, formerly the third base coach, would take over for a weekend series against the Washington Nationals. Now, he will stick it out for the rest of the season.

Despite the somewhat longer-term assurance of his role through the end of the season, Mackanin isn't changing his approach one bit.

"I know it's a cliche, but all I worry about is today's game, and it makes it easy for me," he said before the Phillies played the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. "When I start thinking ahead, it just fogs everything up."

And though he will be guiding a team that has the worst record in the major leagues (27-51 entering play on Tuesday), he is taking that day-by-day approach with one goal on his mind.

"I win today, then I'll worry about winning tomorrow," he said. "Let it come out the way it comes out. It makes it easier for me, and I think that's the best way to approach it, because if we don't win today or tomorrow, (my job title) doesn't matter."

This is the third interim managing stint of Mackanin's career. He first held the position with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005, leading them to a 12-14 record over the last month of the season. He also handled 80 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2007, leading a sub-.500 team to a 41-39 record under his watch.

His 1-3 record in his first four games leading the Phillies makes him an even 53-53 for his career.

The club also named major league shortstop Jorge Velandia as an assistant coach. Velandia, who played for six major league clubs from 1997-2008, was serving the organization as a player personnel special assistant

You mean Cliff Lee......Howard was a stud; no debate about that.....

The Phils just held onto the veterans a little bit longer than they should have....

The interim guy cost philly the game last night
letting the 8th inning guy throw 40 pitches in one inning when it was clear he did not have it.

Absolutely horrible. Left him out there to die.
