Do you think it's offensive? Do you think it should be banned?

Although this is a dangerous topic, I'm truly curious. Also curious to see how other areas feel about it. Being in South, I'm very curious. I don't think this will be a party line vote, I think it's maybe more regional.

Edit: I think the question I was getting to.. What does the confederate flag mean/symbolize to you

Being from the west coast I do not know much about the flag, but I always wondered why it was still around. Never thought much of it, never saw it as race thing... I saw it as a southern thing.

I don't like bans, think people should be able to do what they want with their own money and property. But... I don't think it should be flown on government buildings, We are the USA and that's the flag that should be flown. State flags is a state's issue. Can't imagine being black, going to court and seeing that flag waving. I wouldn't feel like I'd be getting justice there.

State issue. States vote.

If it's part of the State flag I agree, if it's just the confederate flag by itself and on a government building like a courthouse, I disagree.

That government building belongs to the state. State issue.

A person in New Mexico, Montana, Texas or wherever should have no say. The Federal Government should have zero say.

I'm usually a state's rights guy, but I disagree here. If your country is the USA then 'Old Glory' should be flying, not an enemy flag. How would you feel if enough muslims lived in a state and were able to vote the ISIS flag, which is really just the flag of Mohamed, to be hung on government buildings? Are you for State's rights then?

Maybe I should completely rephrase the question

What does the confederate flag mean/symbolize to you

These kinds of issues, is where I take the Republic side over the mob rule vote. Some things can't be left to a vote, especially when it comes to minority individuals being subject to the mob rule. Government buildings need to representative of everyone.

Now that the Supreme Court has rulled that two flags can get married in any state, I see nothing wrong with it.

i get that I set this up for that... but really i just want to gather people who aren't in the south opinions of the flag in general. what it means to them ect..
honestly this topic more explosive here than any political issue or presidential race

To me as a kid, it was the flag on the "Dukes of Hazards" It was the flag of the rebel. But I think it's important to step outside yourself and empathize with others and try to see others points of view. To others it a symbol of terrorism and slavery, and I try to empathize with those individuals. Slavery and then terrorism towards blacks even after the civil war, is a nasty part of our history, and they have a valid reason to not want to be represented by that flag. If you like it fine, hang it on your own property. But it has no place on public property that's supposed to represent everyone.

Part of history. Never intended to mean slavery, so check it out, u can order a Nazi flag or Isis flag on Amazon but not a confederate flag, so the gay flag, it offends me, think Court will remove it from being flown??? What's to say the American Flag doesn't offend immigrants now? Or Japanese decadents living here? Will it be next to be taken down? Just another f'd up thing that the govt is telling us what we can and can not do. Watch ur back

I agree with you Stevie. People should be able to buy and sell what they want freely. Whoever wants to wear it on shirt, have at it. But I'd be against the rainbow flag, or any other flag that's not Old Glory (Our official flag), or the States's official flag flying on public property. If it's on a memorial or museum that's fine. But we live in the USA, and if Old Glory offends someone, they can move, because it's the official flag of the USA.

Enemy flag? Uh, ok.

Yes, I am for state's rights.

So you'd be okay with an islam flag flying, or the rainbow flag flying if that's what the state wants? How do you feel about succession?
