I have an Iphone 5. When my friend sends me texts, his texts are coming thru under another friends name. Every other contact is normal convo. I have attempted to erase our convo and start over, reset the phone, etc with no results. Has anyone ever heard of this or have any ideas?

I thought maybe if he wasn't getting any Texts, then it would be the old... Switch from IPhone to Android, you have to wait 30 days for Texts to work

Easy first step. Delete the number. Then re-add the number under the correct name. Then have your friend text you. If that doesn't fix it let me know. I did Verizon tech support for far too long once upon a time.

Also if that doesn't fix it... Do the 2 friends have the same last 7 digits of their phone number with different area codes? There's an easy fix for that if so.

try going to settings and turning off iMessage

Damnit I'm starting him off easy haha. Truth be told iMessage accounts for a lot of bullshit iPhone users have to deal with (which is fairly minimal overall).

It's an effing pain, haha. I simply don't use it any more. Way too many problems.

Nope totally different numbers. I deleted his number and re-added and his texts still being sent to other name.

Is there any chance the problem is being caused on his end?

Almost none. I won't ever say never because I've seen some weird stuff but it's almost impossible.

Honestly turning off iMessage as akphidelt said is a good next step. Is there any chance your 2 friends that are getting confused might be signed in as the same Apple ID? That would create some issues. As it would if you were somehow signed in as someone else's Apple ID.

Before you get too worried... doing a hard reset and restoring your backed up info will fix it. That's just kind of an annoyance but if it comes down to it you always can fix it.

That being said here is another question...

Have you recently installed a 3rd party texting app?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I had to put up with that at work at SportsOptions for like 4 months. Never once wore khakis either.

Nope I haven't changed a thing. This just started happening out of no where.

It gets more bizarre. When I turn off IMessage and send him a text it also shows up on my phone as being sent to the other friend. The other friend however did not actually receive the text.

Check the numbers saved to your other friend that keeps getting involved. Make sure there aren't duplicate numbers for anyone.
