a little background. i live in hong kong as an expat american and do programming for some financial services companies in kowloon. been here 5 years and do a little os sports betting on the side.

i pmed the poster “ever fresh” some time ago and he and i started chatting here and mostly on fb, he pointed me to some interesting sb discussion sites on oooo and reddit that i frequent
anyway, taking the long way back to hk from the us i happened to find myself in san jose cr recently and gave ef a ping to see if he’d want to grab dinner or whatnot. sure enough he got back to me and told me to meet him at a bar in dt san jose.
i showed up at a dingy roach infested bar, i thought i was in the wrong place but sure enough an older looking character at the far end of the bar looked up and waved. the bar staff seemed to know him and left him alone in a corner with his drinks
my first impression was that this person was at least 75 years old, with long grey hair and an unkempt grey beard. “hi, i’m rory” he said and we shook hands. his hands were calloused and greasy and his eyes were bloodshot and vacant looking. i got the feeling that everyone in the bar was staring at us. he let me buy him a drink and started rambling
everfresh is actually mr. kevin “rory” hempstead a 46 yo american citizen originaly from outside cleveland, oh who has lived in and around central america for about 25 years. he seems to have a peripheral association with online gambling but wouldn’t be specific about who he may work for or what he exactly does for money.
i paid for all the drinks (kept waiting after the third round but he never even tried to pull out his wallet).
the convo was disjointed, stream of consciousness stuff…one minute he’s staring into space muttering softly, then next he’s screaming at me and anyone who’ll listen about why bitcoin is a scam or online grudges he’s nursing and people that "screwed him over". i was a little scared
he claims he’s been banned forever from the rx, is this true? he wanted me to pass along something to the site…that he’s sorry and ashamed that he was kicked off because he dissed bitcoin, that he had no idea that he was insulting anyone and hopes that the mods can forgive him someday for his behavior.
then he asked me for 50,000 colones with a promise to “pay you back” at some future point.
frankly, i felt sorry for the guy. it’s like the last 20 years have passed him by and he’s been left a degenarte mess in a sleaze bar in cr.
i guess this is the end of the line for sports gamblers
