Some comments in another thread made me think of this question.

I think there will be some interesting answers for this one

Heart related problems a couple of years back. Saw my own mortality for the first time and you realize you are nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Looking up into the sky on a clear night and gazing at all the stars and planets. A combination of humility and beauty.

This is a great one

more people should do this and they would gain better perspective on what we think is important in our daily lives

Saw a baby die in Africa.

Had to go sit down for 30 or so and think things over.

Could write a novel. Humility is a virtue life has pounded into me. Same with patience.

I'm not perfect but every time I forget that, life knocks me down a peg.

I think patience is something that comes easier for some people than for others

Humility is definitely one of those traits that we learn the hard way

I've got 2

1. The first time I heard Carl sagans pale blue dot speech. Literally changed my life right then and there

2. This one a little more practical. My first experience in the real business world after being coddled and told how special I was (like all my generation) through high school and college. You instantly realize no one gives shit about your fancy college degree and you don't know anything and haven't earned anything. Pretty humbling moment

JC,

I honestly expected you to say your humbling experience was the first time you saw a grown woman naked.

Happened this week actually... cant go into many details as many here work in the industry but all I can say is; be gentle, be kind... never never treat people with cruelty without a solid reason or proof that the said person acted badly.

3-4 years ago I treated some folks from a shop associated with my former boss... because of unfounded suspicions and people close to my boss talking in my ear. I basically labeled these folks as thieves and else, thinking they wanted to steal packages... well seems I was wrong.

Now I work for said people... and they knew who I was and everything and still gave me a chance and a great job offer... they wanted to beat me up years ago and now gave a great job with no hard feelings... the people I labeled as "bad" somehow turned it around and made me see it was me who "was" bad. I'm ashamed and else but happy, cause it really got to me and I'm grateful, more than any paycheck or praise, I will be forever grateful to these guys cause they humbled my egomaniac ass.

That's a very good story and post.
