Escalator swallows woman alive

A Chinese woman reportedly died in one of the most horrific ways imaginable on Sunday after she fell through the platform at the top of a mall escalator. The woman managed to toss her two-year-old son to safety just seconds before being swallowed whole inside the contraption.
According to the Associated Press, security camera footage of the tragedy shows the woman—identified as 30-year-old Xiang Liujua—slowly riding up the escalator in a mall in Jingzhou , China, while holding her son’s hand. Once she reaches the top, the metal floor buckles, causing the woman’s legs to become ensnared in the downward moving metal steps. As she frantically struggles to free herself, Xiang passes her son to three onlookers, who tried to grab her hand before she was sucked into the machine.

According to the state-run People’s Daily’s, the woman’s body was finally removed from the machine four hours later.

The Government might take the escalator Engineer and shot him in the town common, but that's probably about it.

If so, then what were they doing there?

It's as if they were keeping an eye on something.

They knew something was wrong with it and someone apparently already had the cover off checking it....

And people act like the Chinese are a legitimate threat. They can't even get escalators right. They are like the Russians from the 80's. They know they can't win because if they did, they would have thrown a punch. AKA as North Korea today. They will talk and talk but at the end of the day they know they cant win.

Saw this posted on reddit-not sure how accurate it is but it makes a little more sense.

"it's a mother and her son. the mall employees were waiting at the top because they were about to close off the faulty escalator. the mother ignored the warning and thought lifting her kid and stepping over the faulty area would avoid the problem. she was confirmed dead when extracted three hours after the incident. the father heeded the warning but watched it all happen helplessly at the bottom. you can see him in the gif."
