Ok, I decided it, I'm doing some volunteer work in Africa

Truth is I love animals, and figured one of the best ways to give back to the world is to help protect them! I'm volunteering to Zambia with African Project.

I will probably make this trip on slow season and will stay there 1-6 months. If things go well I might do this forever. Following a much desired change wave I believe this is truly a 180° turn on my life and hope I can do it.

Anyone here has experience in Volunteer work of any kind???

Some will call me a pussy for doing this, lol.

don't do it,a friend of mine went there to work making a ton of money and when he returned home he found out he attracted a few severe diseases and now is in bad shape and not knowing if he will die soon or not.

Dude, you're doing a good deed & no one has or should ever look down on anyone trying to help others, or in your case animals.

Personally, I would rather help people first, then animals, especially in 3rd world countries......but I've never taken the steps.

Only way to have done it which I should have was when u was in college, but I was busy working in my families business in the summers, poor excuse for me, but it is what it is.

Had several friends that built homes for the poor in Africa & several other 3rd world countries, all of them had experiences that opened their eyes to how good we have it......its one thing to see it on TV, & another to.experience it first hand.

Here's hoping you won't forget the experience of a life time......good luck!

And of course this definitely can happen......sorry to hear about your friend.

My friends went in the early 90's......maybe diseases weren't as bad, I don't know.

But there's definitely a chance you could contract something, & forget about drinking anything that's not bottled.

I need to open an external blog anyway for documenting the experience to the trip donors and well, can't go wrong about documenting stuff like this!

To be honest, I lack people skills sometimes you all know that, animals I handle better, feel more comfortable around animals than people.

I thought about this and dying doing something good is not a bad way to go but let's hope that's not the case. I'm going to work with lions specifically, in Livingston Park, Zambia. Help raise and release the ones stranded from family, orphans, or born in captiviry. Lions worry me more than a disease... I will only drink bottled water but they say in their brochure most water in Livingston is OK to drink.

dude before you go you should research the economics of those African countries.

Most of those countries derive their income from hunters.

no animals = no hunters

the locals and professional hunters in those areas do everything in their power to make sure only PAYING hunters harvest animals.
the trophy fees that hunters pay go to the government not the guide services or PH.

they have strict quotas on harvesting in order to maintain the population and to keep it healthy.

the only countries that have problems with herd numbers reaching endangered status are the ones that do not allow hunting.

we kill millions of cows everyday here in the US and eat them, if we outlawed the eating of beef then cows would be on the endangered species list
