CHICAGO (CBS) — Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is the subject of a police investigation in Hamburg, New York.
Early Thursday, the Buffalo News first reported that Hamburg police had opened up a probe on Kane but forbid officers from publicly discussing the investigation. Further details of the incident under investigation weren’t immediately available, but no charges have been filed. It’s unclear if police have questioned Kane, who has a home in Hamburg.
An NHL spokesman said the league is aware of a police investigation involving Kane and is monitoring developments.
Blackhawks spokesman Adam Rogowin added in an email: “We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
The Blackhawks weren’t made aware of the issue at hand until Wednesday and were having trouble contacting Kane to get details, 670 The Score’s Dan Bernstein reported Thursday afternoon.
Police officers entered Kane’s home Sunday with flashlights, the Chicago Tribune reported. Buffalo News crime reporter Lou Michel said police in Hamburg have been “extremely tight-lipped” about the investigation.
“They want to do a fair investigation,” he said. “In fact, they won’t even confirm that it is an investigation of Patrick Kane.”
Kane’s attorney told CBS 2’s Pam Zekman that he doesn’t comment on work involving his client.
Kane, 26, is a native of Buffalo, and he was arrested there in 2009 for allegedly assaulting a cab driver. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
In May of 2012, photos surfaced of Kane binge drinking at the University of Wisconsin.
Kane’s been in the spotlight since Chicago selected him with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft. Since then, he’s been part of a Blackhawks core that has led the team to three Stanley Cups in the past six seasons. He had 64 points (27 goals, 37 assists) in 61 regular-season games in 2014-’15 and recorded 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 23 postseason games.
Kane signed an eight-year, $84-million in the summer of 2014. The deal kicks in at the start of the upcoming 2015-’16 season.
This is developing, so check back for more details later.

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -A woman is reportedly accusing Chicago Blackhawks’ star Patrick Kane of rape. But police in Hamburg, New York officially confirmed the investigation during a news briefing Friday morning.
Less than two months after hoisting the cup as a Chicago hero, Kane finds himself at the center of a criminal investigation.
It all started Saturday night in his hometown of Buffalo, New York.
Buffalo News Crime Reporter Lou Michel, who broke the story, told FOX 32 by phone that Kane was seen out on the town and at a nightclub called Skybar well past midnight.
"He was at a number of different bars in downtown Buffalo. And at some point he ran into this young lady, and things went from there," Michel said.

Two police sources told the newspaper that Kane allegedly took the woman back to his $2 million dollar mansion on the shores of Lake Erie in nearby Hamburg.

Then, at some point on Sunday, the woman reported she had been sexually assaulted.
"A rape kit was performed on the young woman at an area hospital, and that takes four, five days to get the results back," Michel said.

The newspaper reports police obtained a search warrant. On Sunday night, several plainclothes officers went to Kane’s home and were seen by neighbors wearing gloves and taking pictures.

Kane’s lawyer, Paul Cambria, refused to comment.
"Well Paul Cambria is a very experienced attorney. He’s telling Patrick Kane right now not to speak to anybody," said criminal defense attorney Joe Lopez.
Lopez said it wouldn't be unusual for police to get a search warrant in such a high-profile case.
"Usually what they're looking for is evidence of liquor usage, they're looking for clothes, if there's any underwear or anything like that there, and other types of evidence that they want to use in their case. So it's very typical in a case like this that they will get a search warrant to go into the house and look at the scene. And sometimes they get stuff, and sometimes they don't get stuff," Lopez said.
The NHL says it is "following developments" of the police investigation involving Kane.
The Blackhawks said they are in the process of gathering information and declined further comment.
Hamburg Police confirmed an investigation Friday morning, although they would not comment further on the matter.
It is not yet known if police have questioned the 26-year-old Stanley Cup Champion.
The investigation comes after Chicago's third Stanley Cup in six seasons. Kane has been lauded in recent years for his growth after several off-the-ice incidents earlier in his career.
Kane was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to Buffalo this weekend, but it's unclear whether that will happen.
Kane was playing at an MVP-caliber level last season before breaking his collarbone in February. But he returned in time for the playoffs, helping the Blackhawks win their third Cup in six seasons and his third since joining the team in 2007 after being selected by Chicago as the No. 1 overall in the NHL draft.
Kane, who turns 27 in November, helped Chicago return to the playoffs during the 2008-2009 season after a five-year drought. They lost in the conference finals to Detroit, but bounced back the next season to beat Philadelphia in six games in the Stanley Cup finals. The Blackhawks won it all again in 2013, with Kane earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
A member of the 2010 and '14 U.S. Olympic hockey teams, Kane has raised eyebrows with some of his off-ice behavior. He was arrested after an altercation with a cab driver in Buffalo in the summer of 2009. A few years later, photos posted on the Internet showed him partying in Madison, Wisconsin.
In an interview with The Associated Press before last year's Sochi Games, Kane said there were things he now knew that he didn't a few years earlier.
"How to work harder in the summer or take better care of yourself as far as eating and different things like that," Kane said. "Picking the right times to have fun with the guys and to make sure that when you're doing it, you're doing it right, and you're careful about the way you're going about it."
The alleged incident is not Kane's first run-in with the law. Back in 2009, Kane and his cousin were accused of assaulting a taxi cab driver in Buffalo. Both men pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
Kane's agent Pat Brisson's statement:
"As the Blackhawks indicated in their statement, they are gathering information and will be reviewing reports. It would not be appropriate to provide further comment at this time."

This might not be politically correct, but instead of a rape kit, she should of requested a brain kit before she went with Kaner to his house, what did she think was going to happen, get married and fall in love. could be off base here but please.

She knew it was coming out by going home with him. He wasn't looking for some drunk girl to take home from the bar for a game of scrabble.

Kane's my favorite NHL player, have a Kane Jersey and everything, so I hope this isn't true. I remember when him and his brother beat up their cab driver for shorting him 13 cents change. Sounded like a scene straight out of "Slap Shot".

I obviously don't know anything about this case, but I heard some scary shit a few months ago. A friend of a friend of a friend got drunk and fucked this guy, but didn't remember everything. I guess she stopped him mid cervix-pounding, and he stopped and was pissed and got up and left. She told her mom, and her mom was like "you were raped." She called the guy the next day to hang out, lol, and the guy was like fuck you, leave me alone. She talked to her girlfriends and there was momentum building with the "rape" shit. She didn't even know what happened entirely and the guy stopped, yet she was encouraged to accuse him of rape.

I dunno, I mean the guy could screw 95% of all single women in the US. He likely picked the hottest girl that night that offered. I guess the rape kit evidence will tell the real story of what happened.

New details emerged Sunday into the investigation of Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane.
The woman accusing the hockey star of rape reportedly had bite marks on her shoulders and a scratch on her leg, sources told The Buffalo News, which first reported the story.
The report says the woman claims she and a friend went to Kane's home in Hamburg after meeting him at SkyBar early Sunday morning. She says once there, he followed her into a room and overpowered her around 4 a.m., about an hour after Kane was seen leaving the bar.
The report says she left with her friend and called relatives before going to a hospital for an examination. Local police were then alerted.
Lawyer Paul Cambria confirmed in a text message to The Associated Press on Saturday that he has been hired to represent Kane. Cambria represented Kane in 2009, when he pleaded guilty to a non-criminal charge of disorderly conduct after being accused of assaulting a Buffalo cab driver over 20 cents.
Saturday was supposed to be Kane's day with the Stanley Cup, but he canceled any public events and instead spent the day with friends and family.

On Friday, Hamburg police confirmed Kane is under investigation for an "incident that allegedly occurred" at the player's offseason home in suburban Buffalo. Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett did not discuss the nature of the investigation. He said police are gathering information and awaiting forensic tests.
The Buffalo News reported Thursday that the Kane investigation focuses on an alleged rape, citing two law enforcement sources. The report says a woman reported being assaulted over the weekend and had testing done via a rape kit at a hospital. WKBW-TV in Buffalo, citing sources, reported that the alleged incidentinvolves Kane and a woman that began at a bar in Evans, N.Y.
