The incident happened in Toronto, according to several media outlets and retweets on social media.

A spokeswoman for Uber told Slate in a statement: “There was an error here and it has been resolved. We have provided a full refund to this rider and apologized to him for this experience.”
It went on to say, “we have safeguards in place to help prevent something like this from happening, and we are working to understand how this occurred.”
It is not unheard of for Uber riders to be charged high prices.
A Sterling, Va., woman was charged $640.94 for an Uber ride from her home to Reagan National Airport. Typically, that ride would be about $50 to $70.
