It's official: Vin Scully will be back calling Los Angeles Dodgers games in 2016, his 67th season in the booth for the franchise.

The 87-year-old Scully made the announcement through comedian Jimmy Kimmel in the middle of the second inning of the team's 4-1 win against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. Kimmel broke the news on the Dodger Stadium video boards using cue cards, one of the final one saying "(at least)," referencing that Scully could work beyond just next season. His last card read: "God bless us everyone."

"I talked it over with my wife, Sandi, and my family and we've decided to do it again in 2016," Scully said in a release. "There's no place like home ... and we look forward to being a part of it with all of our friends."

Scully, the longest-tenured game-caller with one team, began his professional broadcasting career in 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He has called three perfect games, 25 World Series and 12 All-Star games. He was behind the microphone for Kirk Gibson's Game 1 homer in the 1988 World Series, Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series, Hank Aaron's record-setting 715th home run and Sandy Koufax's four no-hitters, including a perfect game.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1982.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon met with Scully before the game and posed for a picture with him before meeting with the media for his pregame scrum. When Maddon addressed reporters, he indicated Scully told him an announcement would come during the game.

A couple hours later, it did, and it drew a massive roar and ovation for Scully, who stood and leaned out from his broadcast window at the stadium in appreciation of the support.
"Vin is a national treasure and the Dodgers couldn't be happier to have him back at the microphone in 2016," Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said. "Vin makes every broadcast special and generation after generation of Dodger fans have been blessed to be able to listen to him create his poetic magic since 1950. We look forward to adding many new chapters to that legacy in 2016."

Scully has reduced his travel schedule in recent years. He calls all home games and selected road games.

It's perhaps the most incredible streak in sports history. This guy, this great legendary announcer, has been doing dodger baseball longer than not only most of us have been alive....but longer than many of our parent's lives as well. And he still sounds great. I just watched a game last night and he sounded sharp and was still better than just about anyone doing games right now. And he does it all by himself.

...and his delivery, his style. Telling the Background of the Players.

"Madison Bumgartner grew up in a town where most of the people are named Bumgartner and when he went to High School dated a girl named Madison Bumgartner."

Thats just one of thousands.Fascinating Shit. No One does it like Mr. Scully or has ever done it like him.
We are privileged to exist amongst a Legend and to get to hear him do what makes him that Legend, call Baseball Games, that eclipses any Announcing Legend thats ever existed.

I was in a small bedroom in a ghetto apartment complex in Paramount California the night of my 8th Birthday, was given a Portable Transistor Radio earlier in the day. (It was a Major Invention back then a humongous leap forward for Humanity, Transistor was THE SHIT...changed stuff. To be 8 years Old and have one in the ghetto was "good for one Born Under The Sign Of Leo lmfao"......)

KHJ was at commercial I scrolled through the channels for literally the very first time cuz Mom's friend who gave it to me said "this station is all you'll need don't fuck with it just leave it there...." mainly cuz he figured I was too young to operate the radio lol.......I bravely scrolled...I remember being afraid I was gonna break it, the radio....I was scared but scriolled anyways.

As we must.

I found a guy talking about some thing.

I had no clue what the fuck he was talking about but remembered being interested in it cuz HE seemed TOTALLY interested in it so I felt that I would do well to try and find out what the hell it was...

That thing was Baseball. That Guy was Vin Scully.

For better or Worse.....all depends upon the Win % I can accomplish going forward.......

my whole life changed.

I'd listen thereafter. He'd recap the games. Announcing just the Highlights, like, they'd replay his Live Announcing of those. After every Dodgers Game.

I'd NEVER miss that shit. Such a part of my routine as a preteen was this that I'd be bummed. there'd be a VOID in my life on Dodger Off-Days :):)

Too bad he can't mange the Dodgers....

Why can't he Viejo?

He's only 87.

Its not like he's 90 or something.

I don't know Viejo though cuz if I was 87 years old I'd be wondering what the fuck part of the concept of retirement, sitting on the beach sippin' mai tais that it was that I failed to execute successfully.

and now you're proposing he Manage the team as well?

You're not in charge of any Work Crews or anything like that.....are you Viejo?

I ask cuz seems like you'd be about to work a man to death.

The Dude is 87 Years Old Viejo. You want him to take on managing the team, been with them 67 years and here after 67 years with them here when he is 87 you propose Viejo that he take on Managing the Team as well?

Within your Vision Viejo....would that be in addition to his Broadcasting Duties?

Maybe we could convince him to mow my yard every Tuesday as well.

Since theres not baseball games in the daytime on Tuesday, He's Free.....

EIGHTY SEVEN. Born: November 29, 1927 (age 87), The Bronx, New York City, NY.

man....thats mind-blowing. 87 is a lot.

I don't see these bloated lazy ass Millionaires even really needing a Manager in this Division Viejo though anyways.

Its an Odd Numbered year so SF is no concern Viejo
, DBacks aren't able to win at Home they score runs but.....

I don't know what happens. They manage to Lose. I ain't even concerned myself with it. DBacks score runs yeah but what they show that say they can catch Dodgers?

San Diego Padres lol. If they wasn't already in the vacation destination (San Diego) I'd say they gone on vacation already so obviously they been on vacation. Since, like, week 4 of this season.

No Team will ever win anything with Matt Kemp. Dude just has "Bad Karma" but...it ain't even that....struggling for the right phrase here....he's an anchor....a weight that will drag a team down cuz off immodesty....ego. Hard to explain in Words. Suffice to say Kemp is the equivalent of The Peaceful Pill to any teammate's hopes for a World Championship Ring.

Dodgers might need a Manager if they were in AL East Division and thus within the heat of actual battle

but in the stagnant pond they're no run producing asses are blessed to be in producing as few Runs as possible (which they are really good at, scoring like 1 or 2 runs a game) they can just coast to the Post where maybe they'll decide to try and play to "their capabilities", put forth the effort that their huge $$$ contracts would make one think they'd feel interested in putting forth.

So I am not even sure the result would be any different if they had a manager or not.

What we are seeing and that hardly anyone is taking into consideration is that Pitching has become "more dominate" yes because of a whole Plethora of Reasons but never ever amomgst those reasons do they mention that Pitching has become more dominant because guys are being paid so much more, have so many more interesting things within their lives and so many magnificent things that they can do...experience cuz they are wealthy....so much more is so much better so mucb more wonderfilled than about their lives than Baseball.

Once it really mattered to bring that runner in from 3rd now its like....."whatever". I have an Olympic Sized Pool that looks like it never ends.

I know folks will say they are 16 games over 500 what the fuck are you bitching about well I can't consider a Run Line Play on these assholes and thats what I am bitching about and anyone who thinks this team has any thing near a remote prayer of handling Toronto is Delusional and this is my childhood team spending all the money they are I should be able to look at a Run Line bet with more confidence.

Or any fuckin' confidence at all, at this point. I am willing to take that I've become so desperate just score some fucking RUNS.

Is it so much to ask? Gonzalez Kendricks Rollins....Turner. Back when we had Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Garvey, Lopes that guy who managed the Cubs played outfield I forget his name Dusty Baker? Or was that the Angels?

Whatever. We scored Runs.

Well...THEY scored Runs.

AL East Graphic should have gone there of course ^^^

to actually illustrate the "heat of battle" but no biggie that it didn't and the WEST NOTHINGNESS GOT REPEATED....the easy Coast versus only that other group of Millionaires from up North in Cali who similarly don't seem concerned.

Thats a Battle though, the East.

West just a Field of Fucking of Pansies.

love his stories in between pitches.

One time my best friend and myself were in the car listening to the Dodger game, had just smoked a joint of good $10 a lid reefer and Vinnie started spinning a yarn between pitches about a player-my friend and I looked at each other and said "who cares?' right at that moment, Vinnie says "Did I hear someone out there say who cares?" We lost it
