Same as in years past, using ESPN, head to head, $100 buy in, live draft, and looking for 12 teams.

Prize pool:
$650
$350
$200

Season opens Wednesday, 10/7/15. Thinking about a live draft for Monday, 10/5 at 8:00 pm EST.

Sign up below. I’ll PM you the particulars.

Vic--I would like to propose a minor change to the ante and payout. What if we made it $125, kept the same payout above to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd and took the extra $300 and awarded $30 for each category winner (10 categories). That will perhaps keep those who are basically eliminated (from 1st, 2nd, & 3rd) with 4 weeks to go interested so they don't just mail it in. Thoughts?

That’s not a bad idea and I’m all for it.

The only thing I’d like to change is PIMs as one of the categories. I’ve always had a problem with that negative act being a positive in the standings. Last year we had Goals, Assists, +/-, PIMs, PPP, SOG, W, SO, GAA, and Save#. I’d rather see hits substituted for PIMs. Other choices would be face off wins, short handed goals, assists, or points. I also notice that ESPN no longer offers save# but has substituted it with saves. That might be a good thing as in the past you could have a goalie register a couple shutouts early in the week then just sit all goalies out the rest of the way and lock up that category. With total saves it forces you to play the whole week out.

In addition I see ESPN has eliminated GAA. They now offer games started, wins, loses, shots against, goals against, empty net goals against, saves, shutouts, or overtime loses. In regard to the negative stats like goals against or overtime loses I can adjust the scoring to give the team/player a -1 point as opposed to +1. So far I set it up to be wins, shots against, saves, and shut outs. All positive points.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of Hits as it isn't an official NHL stat, it is subjective, and varies from arena to arena based on the local scorer. If we were to drop PIM, I would choose face off wins.

Shots against is just pure # of shots against? Isn't that more a defensive stat than it is a goaltending stat? Unless I am misinterpreting

I interpreted it as SOG against which rewards a poor defensive team that allows a ton of shots, like Luongo when he played with the Panthers the first time around. I need to do some more research at ESPN on the definition of their stats.

Worse comes to worse we can always switch over to Yahoo this year.

I already have confirmation from Barman that he’ll participate again. Bushay is checking with Marni. Love to get Sherwood and Feddz again. Not sure if Adam will join us this year.

Let's just switch to Yahoo and retain mainstream four categories for goalies, plus perhaps a Total Saves slot as I agree that it forces managers to play more goalie minutes rather than bang a couple early week shutouts and switch to the neutral zone trap for remaining week

Replace PIM with Blocked Shots and include Faceoffs Won for a composite seven skater categories and five goalie categories

Highly approve of the $125 and maybe even 160 with the add on money being channeled to category leaders during final four (or even six) weeks.

So $1000 in prize pool, and $50 per (12) categories for final six weeks. A great way to keep lower tier teams active and a bit of add on for contenders who also perform well in final six weeks

Let's not muddle around about the higher ante.....Everyone here can handle $160....even if you had to send Vic two pymts spread out a couple weeks.

Just checked with Yahoo and they are doing the same thing. Their’s is set up for Wins, goals against, (negative points), saves, and shutouts. Without checking other sites I believe this might be a new industry policy. Like I said before it solves a loop hole preventing a manager from sitting on a early strong start from their goalies and locking up the GAA, save# categories. I think we should stay with ESPN.

Stick with 10 categories. Keep the buy in at $125 paying off $25 to all category winners at year end. Please no installment plan on the buy as I’ll only send out invites once the entire balance is received.

The category payout depends on whether or not we have 10 players or 12. If 10, then it is $25/category (10 players x $25 extra =250/10 categories=$25/category If it is 12 players, payout will be $30/category (w 12 players x $25/player=$300 / 10 categories = $30/category). Agree?

Perhaps some day 50 years down the road after most of us are gone, the Pucks R Us league will still be in existence and the category awards will be named after us much like the Hart Trophy, Richard, Jack Adams, Conn Smythe, etc.

I just hope none of us have an award named after us for the same reason Bill Masterton has an award named for him. I'll take Lady Byng over Masterton...
