I just dont know the answer... So I presume its illegal, but I really don't know so here I am asking...

So when teams attempt long field goals, they now put a player back there to catch it and return it...

Could that returner be your tall guy with a ridiculous vertical and jump up and swat it even though it had a chance to go through?

no LOL

That's too bad really. Imagine some team signs Serge Ibaka to just stand back there and swat at the last second.

Or in hockey what about getting a really really FAT guy as a goalie where he's blocking almost the whole net?

You say this with confidence, I mean I assume not because I've never seen it tried, but I just dont know the rules. So you can catch it. What if you have a 7 footer back there who reaches up and catches it.. how do the rules read..

Or how about a wide receiver who is so tall that no one can leap up to his highest reach. He just has to stand there and hold his hands up and catch the ball.

Yeah it's basically the same as goaltending, it might even be called that. It's a 15 yard penalty. I'm not making it up.

I think the tall person would still have to be a great athlete. Think like Anthony Davis or a prime Kevin Garnett. You can't really just put someone who is slow and no coordination out there.

So you have someone 6'11 and just put him on goal line and toss it up to him. That would probably work, it's just too outside the box and the team would have no other role for the guy.

At the very least a team would likely have to cheat a 2nd guy in that direction.

Back in the 70s, Kansas City had a tall guy that tried to do that. Remember George Blanda winning a game for Oakland when the guy just missed swatting it away.

hahaha only a Patriots fan would know the answer :ohno:

  • Goal-tending by a defensive player leaping up to deflect a kick as it passes above the crossbar of a goalpost. The referee may award three points for a palpably unfair act (12-3-3).

Just Googled it...Morris Stroud was his name. 6-10 tight end. You can probably see a youtube of him.

Yeah only reason I know is because I emailed the team 56 different times during the 2011 season saying they should try this.

D was bad that year, needed to keep points off the board by any means necessary.

Or how about in baseball getting a midget to stand in the box to attempt to draw a walk because the strike zone is so small.

That actually happened in an MLB game. LOL
