[h=1]The first 8K TV will go on sale soon for over $130,000[/h]
Sharp has demonstrated Super Hi-Vision 8K displays before (as seen above during CES 2015), but today in Japan it announced an 85-inch version is going on sale October 30th. Dubbed the LV-85001, it's a monitor (it has a tuner so you could call it a TV, but that can't actually receive 8K video) for professional use only, mostly since there aren't really any broadcasts or content to watch in 8K. Coming in at 16 times the resolution of 1080p screens, the 7,680 x 4,320 pixel LCD panel uses Sharp's IGZO technology. To actually watch any 8K video, you'll need to plug into all four of its HDMI inputs at once just to have enough bandwidth. If you're interested (and why wouldn't you be, even though there's almost nothing to watch), just contact Sharp's business-to-business sales unit, and bring along a check for 16,000,000 yen, or about $133,034 US.

Of course, it's not actually time to throw your 4K (or if you're really old-school, 1080p) HDTV aside. Ultra HD Blu-ray movies in 4K are still just around the corner, and actually delivering 8K video is still a few years away. Testing out broadcasts is one thing professionals can actually do with this new display, and Japan's NHK has been working on the technology for years. Public tests could start as early as next year, and the first broadcasts are scheduled for 2018. I saw a test 8K broadcast in Washington DC during the 2012 Olympics, and while it was amazing and immediately well-beyond anything else I've ever seen before, it required nearly an entire room of equipment and a connection via Internet2 just to handle all the data. It will probably be 2020, at least, before 8K is any kind of realistic option, so don't worry about future proofing just yet.

The resolution is just 1 aspect of TV picture.
Just because it's a 4k TV does not automatically make the picture better then a 1080p.

I have the top of the line 79" Sony 4k LED for about a month.

I also have s 6 year old pioneer plasma in 1080p.

The 6 year old 1080p pio destroys my Sony 4k and it's not even close.

The only edge I give the Sony is picture size.

Im not saying the 4k Sony does not look good but the pioneer plasmas are just special.

Just google pioneer plasma.

They are still the best tvs ever made even to this day.

My pio plasma is 6 years old and I could sell it right now for more then I paid for it .

Anyway the Sony looks very good playing native 4k but you can only watch so many 3 minute nature clips on YouTube before you get bored with it.

Wait for the OLED sets to come out this year. I think you will find they put plasma to shame.

They already came out. LG has one in 4k.

They are the future but not right now.

Motion blur , image retention , and short lifespan just to name a few makes them not an option at this current time.

Believe me if those issues did not exist I would own one right now.

Im waiting on panosonics 4k OLED.
They hired all the pioneer engineers when pioneer got out the TV business and they had the 2nd best plasmas on the market.

So chances are they will have the best OLED

Is anything even broadcasting in 4k yet? They looked amazing in the store..

YouTube , Netflix , and Amazon Prime have 4k.

Netflix has Breaking bad, house of cards, blacklist and several others in 4k .

But to be honest the picture quality on those don't blow me away.

Breaking bad is upscaled to 4k but was not natively shot in 4k.

In order to get the full effect of 4k it has to be shot in 4k.

I think the last season of house of cards was shot in 4k but I haven't got to the last season yet to judge the quality.

Netflix and Amazon announced that all their new original programming will all be shot in 4k.

The Pioneer Kuro is the greatest consumer production display ever made. The new OLEDs will not "blow it away"

I was out at H&H Gregg yesterday, they have the LG Curved OLED 4k UHD 65" TV.......I don't see much difference than the regular 4k UHD......

And like Chop stated, I too agree Pioneer Plasma blows away anything out there.

Unfortunety you are correct.
I think it's sad that my 6 year old tv is still the best tv ever made.
You would have thought by now that something would have passed it up.

I think it's neat that I own the best tv ever made but I would rather have the ability to buy something even better today.

Its not often that technology regresses and gets worse over time. But that is the case with tv picture.

LED is not capable of plasma picture quality even if it has 50k resolution .

The backlight causes light bleed that destroys black levels.

I just got a new tv for a bonus room. 55" Vizio 4k. Picture looks great. But the audio leaves a little to be desired. Any advice on adding a sound bar? Good idea?
