thought i'd share. I'm sure this level of nuty is not prejudiced to hockey.
two yrs ago a friend asked for help coaching as the organization was short of volunteers. 8 yr olds, houseleague hockey, green level-- that's the lowest level, introductory. I said cool. As the season progresses kid's skills develop at different rates, some blossom.... a few kids indifferent; especially this one kid, Henry. Spent a good portion of time with him, he wanted to talk about anything BUT hockey and would routinely ask- 'is practice over?' or 'this game is going slow'.
. The team starts to have success as the season progresses and parents start to get much more 'into it'. Henry's indifference doesnt change, as an example, during the games if he sees the puck he makes sure he goes the other way, lol. One day this one dad takes me aside. His boy played forward . All year have had few exchanges with him other then pleasantries. He's a quiet chap. He says this, ;
'coach, what are we going to do with Henry? Does he have to play?'
he caught me off guard
.......just when you think you've heard it all at the rinks.........
