Also does the running back position get downgraded in future HOF voting?

Looking at his peers in the same era, he stands up pretty well.

Now that I think about it. Isn't Marcus Allen in the hof? What did he ever do to get in?

He was a great out of the backfield. He has a superbowl ring with an iconic run in that game. He was versitile enough to play fullback when bo jackson played and he wore tiny pads in an era when the game was nastier than it is today. Not a true rb so to speak, but a great football player.

No .. And skill position players for this era are going to be looked at much differently when they come up. Cannot even think of comparing their stats with guys who are already in. This is like the steroid era in baseball x10.

The talk is everywhere. Few people haven’t at least caught whispers of it. Most Bears fans are in agreement that the team has plenty of logical reasons to trade running back Matt Forte. He turns 30-years old in December, has an expiring contract and is playing some of the best football of his career. So there is reasons for them, a team trying to go young to unload him while there are reasons other teams in need of running backs should place a call.
Most believe it would take no more than a fourth round pick to make a deal happen, but anybody trying to get him cheap will be disappointed according to Jason La Canfora.

Any deal for Forte would have to come with much higher compensation, according to the source.
“They’re not just going to give him away,” he said. “There has to be value in the trade. It won’t just be a salary dump.”
Some teams that were in contact with the Bears on other trades said that Forte was not offered to them during those discussions, and he is not being shopped around. But if teams broach the topic, according to the source, the Bears will listen.
Even despite all of this rampant speculation, Forte himself has remained resolute on his desires. He wants to retire in Chicago and hopes the team is willing to make that happen.

Sadly they lost to the Packers and regressed from there into where they sit now.
Forte feels like he has some unfinished business. After all, he is the only remaining drafted Bears player between 2006 and 2011. He’s been their shining light in a swirling torrent of offensive change over the years. If any man deserves to go out like he wants, it’s him. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that the NFL is a business. What it comes down to is production value and price.
Right now Forte holds a salary cap number of $9.2 million. If he’s expecting to earn that price on a new deal, then he’s kidding himself. Even great running backs don’t make that kind of money when they hit the 30-year-old mark. So it will come down to how much he asks for.
The good news is the Bears will have upwards of $58-60 million in cap space, so they won’t have to pinch pennies. If Matt is willing to take a reasonable discount, then it might convince GM Ryan Pace to work something out. After all, Forte currently leads the NFL in total yards from scrimmage and is second in rushing. There is no sign yet that his body is breaking down.
Conventional wisdom says he likely has one or two more good seasons left in him. It would keep a productive player and leader in place on that offense while also being a terrific public relations move by the team to begin their process of rewarding homegrown players for their hard work.
Call it a reconciliation for how poorly things were handled two years ago with the Brian Urlacher fiasco.
If bad karma ruined the Trestman/Emery era, then perhaps allowing the best running back since Walter Payton to finish his career in Chicago would be a feel-good story for all.

It's the Hall of Fame not the Hall of as good as other RB's in your era.

Hell no.

[h=1]Matt Forte not expecting to stay with Chicago Bears[/h] by Carlos Nazario <time datetime="2015-12-24 8:54 am">5h ago</time> Follow @@cnazario

<article> [h=2]Matt Forte feels his time with the Chicago Bears is nearing the end. After attempts to work out something so he could stay went without a response, he sees the writing on the wall and is ready to move on.[/h] With no playoff hopes to extend the season, the Chicago Bears have just two games remaining. After that, you could expect a lot of turnover on the roster. General manager Ryan Pace head coach John Fox want to mold their team to their vision, and some players on the current roster don’t fit that vision.
One of those players appears to be Matt Forte.
<iframe style="border: 0px currentColor; vertical-align: bottom;" id="google_ads_iframe_/8484/fansided/sites_4" height="1" marginHeight="0" src="javascript:"<html><body style='background:transparent'></body></html>"" frameBorder="0" width="1" name="google_ads_iframe_/8484/fansided/sites_4" marginWidth="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Forte will be a free agent at the end of the season. He has been one of the elite running backs since he entered the league in 2008, but he is on the wrong side of age 30 now, and with the de-emphasis on the running game, the Bears seem to not want to give Forte another contract.
Forte sees the writing on the wall. He and his agent approached the Bears last offseason, trying to restructure his deal so he could be extended. It would have been a win-win for both parties, as Forte would have gotten more cash in a bonus, and the Bears would get salary cap relief.
The Bears did not respond.
Now Matt Forte feels that the end is near. “I mean, I want to return,” Forte said. “But if you’re saying, am I hopeful that I do return? There is not much to hope for that right now because like I said, I talked to [the Bears’ front office] earlier and they haven’t said anything back. So there’s nothing really to hope for.”
The Chicago Bears already have two young running backs in Jeremy Langford and Ka’Deem Carey. Langford has shown flashes of being the same type of back as Forte, running well and catching the ball out of the backfield. Having a big contract at running back, with two solid options already there, and having so many holes to fill, is not a good idea.
Matt Forte has been a great representative of the Chicago Bears. He has been a shining example of how to be a role model both on and off the field. He has done everything that has been asked of him, and you do not hear any complaining from him.
We need to know that this is a business, however, and sometimes tough, unpopular decisions need to be made.
Matt Forte really wants to stay in Chicago. He even hinted that he would give the team a hometown discount. “I always look at staying home and being here where I’ve been the past eight years. That’s a major factor.”

It seems everyone wants Matt Forte back in Chicago but the Chicago Bears. They are looking to move on, and that is something he and the fans may be forced to do.

Bears never held back using him over his career. Like most old school RBs Forte body took a beating. He has always been healthy for as much as he has played. Between rushing/receiving he has to have been tackled more than any other current player.
