great job leaving your team when they needed you the most. he was likely going to be a starter if they got past the wild card game. Why not wait another week to check in so you can play in the postseason. This is a very selfish move by CC.

You act like the guy decided to take a vacation or something. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

Sometimes things are spinning out of control behind the scenes, even though they might look normal to outsiders. Hope he gets healthy.

With all due respect, if someone has a substance abuse problem their obligation is to take care of themselves. Also, for all we know the Yankees were aware of the situation and told him he had to take care of the problem. If he put if off for a week, and the Yankees were somehow to keep advancing is he supposed to keep postponing treatment?

Are you kidding? What about his responsibility to his family? Some things are more important than baseball. This being one of them.

not sure I follow bases80 logic.
so you would rather he mislead the team into believing he is prepared/primed to perform in the post season, rather that taking care of himself while on a downward slide? Instead he lets them fill the roster spot with someone at the top of their game and not wrestling with demons. Sounds pretty team oriented to me.

why am I getting hammered here? This is definitely a selfish move, putting himself ahead of his team. I follow the Yankees regularly and he had a very solid 2 starts after getting a knee brace and it was almost certain that he would have been a playoff starter if they got through the wild card game. Now without CC the rotation is weakened. And considering how the playoffs are all about getting hot at the right time the Yankees could have made a run. Surely this isn't a problem that just came up but rather has been an issue for years. You don't become an alcoholic overnight. He could have waited another week or two before checking into rehab and pithced in the playoffs. Not like its a life or death situation. So yes this was a selfish move by CC throwing away the entire season for his team and wasting the regular season effort put up by his teammates.

You don't know if it's life or death. You don't know how bad the problem is.

You want to know what's selfish, asking someone to put sports ahead of their life, their family, and their health. It's just a game, man. If the Yankees don't win another World Series no one's world is going to end.

Being that I hate the Yankees, I'm not losing sleep over this... heh heh

I'm sure the decision weighed heavily on him and ultimately he decided that he did the team more harm than good in his current state.

the way he ended the season he was going to be in the starting rotation. After Tanaka they don't have anyone else they can rely on in that rotation, also just a couple days ago he was sipping on champagne celebrating with the team, he sure as hell didn't have an issue with it then.

Something happened.....no way he waited till today to realize he's an alcoholic.

He either got caught with a dead hooker, or he T-Boned a family in an automobile while drunk.

Likely wasn't a big part of a part at all of the Yanks post season plans or this would of likely been delayed
