Definitely a hard slide...not a clean one..Tejeda had his back to the play when Utley, who never touched the base set his sights on taking out his legs...any player at that level knows if you go in hard you gotta come right up not roll thru the guys legs like that. Should be disciplined

It is a guy who really wants another Championship and knew what needed to be done to get Game Two tied. It was not a slide, it was a take out tackle to ensure a result. With that said, I want that guy on my team. And do not forget his position, it will come back to him at some point.

Still don't know how they decide to call him safe after the review. He may have grazed the bag with his hand for a split second, but he ended up several feet past it before heading to the dugout. Call on the field should have remained even though Tejeda didn't touch the bag (by maybe an inch). It's wrong to assume him safe. If the umpire had signaled safe and Tejeda had not broken his fibia, he could've got up and tagged Utley. The replay should've been ruled inconclusive (call on the field stands).

The slide was an attempt to take out Tejada and break up the double play, that is exactly what it is. The issue here though is that it rarely injures anyone so they've allowed it. But the real goal is to take the SS out or out enough fear into him to not make the throw. Utley's slide was late if it wore a stealing base sitaution he would never slide that late. Only way to fix it is probably a judgement type call

This is how baseball has always been played. Rules state the ump can call dead ball and runner and batter out if he thinks there was interference. The question is, was there interference?and I have to say yes but what do I know. Too bad for Tejada but he's been around long enough to know the runner is coming at him. I'd bet this rule changes next year just like the collision with catcher rule.

I don't see them changing a rule like the Buster Posey rule. They don't give a damn about Tejada like they do their poster boy. Maybe a slight rule change like a judgment call but nothing like the home plate rule. The league thinks of Posey like the NFL does Tom Brady. Tejada will not get the same kind of love. If anything, after seeing that Utley's appeal go through, looks like the MLB would rather side with Chase. Am I right??

Good hard slide and not meant to hurt another player. Anyone who bitches it was dirty never played the game or plays for the Mets. Every kid who has ever played the game has been taught to get to the second baseman and try to get a piece of him while trying to stay within contact of the 2nd base bag.
if I hear one more person bitch that it was dirty I will absolutely lose my mind !

A slide occurs when you hit the dirt before making contact with a player. Utley when straight at his knees without any attempt to hit the ground first. It was illegal and dirty.

The fact he didn't mean to hurt the guy is irrelevant. Repeating the same tired line......"good, hard slide"....."always been played like that", etc.....

There is a rule in place that should have been enforced, but the umpire was too incompetent to rule that way.

The new catcher rule is a good thing, sports have evolved. Targeting, diving at a QBs knees, NHL has updated rules, etc... all have been implemented for player safety. They don't compromise the integrity of the game at all if enforced properly. The Utley "slide"? Its been illegal for years, umpires need to enforce it.
