The Colorado Rockies issued a statement late Monday night that they are "extremely disappointed and concerned" to learn of domestic abuse allegations against shortstop Jose Reyes.

Reyes was arrested Oct. 31 on Maui after allegedly grabbing his wife, Katherine, by the throat and shoving her into the sliding glass door of their hotel room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, according to Hawaii News Now.

Reyes was arrested after hotel security called police, Hawaii News Now reported, and he was released on bail.
His wife was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with injuries to her thigh, neck and wrist, according to the report.

Major League Baseball, as well as the Rockies, said in statements that they are gathering information about the alleged incident.
"As evidenced by our Joint Domestic Violence Policy, Major League Baseball understands the seriousness of the issues surrounding domestic violence, and our Policy explicitly recognizes the harm resulting from such acts," The MLB statement said.

In August, MLB announced a new domestic violence policy that allows commissioner Rob Manfred to issue discipline for "just cause," the same standard used under the sport's collective bargaining agreement.
Reyes, 32, was acquired by the Rockies in the trade that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays. Reyes said in late August that he would welcome a trade from Colorado. He is owed $56 million through 2017.

Reyes, a career .290 hitter, batted .259 with three home runs, 19 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 47 games with Colorado. The Rockies finished 68-94, last in the National League West.
Reyes previously played for the Miami Marlins and New York Mets. He is the latter's all-time leader in triples and stolen bases.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
