No. 8 Florida says the NCAA has denied quarterback Will Grier's appeal of a one-year suspension for failing a drug test.

Grier was suspended in mid-October, six games into the season, for testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug. The suspension is one calendar year and Grier was hoping to have it reduced. He will be suspended for the first six games of next season, including four SEC games. The earliest he would be able to return is Oct. 15 against Missouri.

Grier said he took an over-the-counter supplement without getting approval from the Florida athletic training staff.

The redshirt freshman threw for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns in helping the Gators get out to an undefeated start. Treon Harris has started for Florida (9-1) since Grier's suspension.
