After opting out of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, right-hander Zack Greinke is reportedly seeking a premium contract after a terrific 2015 season.

According to an ESPN report, Greinke aims to land a contract worth $30 million annually in free agency.

Zack Greinke's market is quietly heating up, says a source. #Dodgers, #SFGiants both looking for some clarity.

Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick It's believed Greinke is looking for a $30M annual payout. He's 32, so length of the deal will be an issue.

The righty is coming off a stellar season in which he posted a 19-3 record with a 1.66 ERA and 200 strikeouts against 40 walks in 222 2/3 innings, which slotted him second in the NL Cy Young Award voting behind Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta.

In his three seasons with the Dodgers, in which he compiled a 51-15 record with a 2.30 ERA, Greinke made an average of $23.33 million per season.

As noted in the report, Greinke's age of 32 makes the length of his forthcoming contract an issue to potential suitors, as pitchers typically experience significant attrition in their late-30s.
The Dodgers and rival San Francisco Giants, who are both seeking to bolster their rotations this offseason, are said to be in closest contention to sign Greinke.

The Red Sox are taking no shortcuts with their rotation this time. According to a source briefed on the negotiations, they agreed on Tuesday on a seven-year, $217 million contract with lefthander David Price.

The deal is the largest ever for a pitcher, $2 million more than the Dodgers gave Clayton Kershaw.

Red Sox will still suck. I think sometimes winning games isn't number one to the managing staff making these decisions.

Wasn't that long ago that the Red Sox brass dubbed the Yankees the "evil empire" for spending so much money. Times certainly have changed.

If Price is worth 31 mil.......Greinke is worth at least 35.....

Greinke is the best in the game IMO.

I can name 15 pitchers I'd trust over Price.

$30M per season should work out to roughly $1M per start. Not bad for a day's work, and not bad for a guy who will see the field only one day out of every five.

My, how times have changed...
