The St. Louis Rams have no plans to fire coach Jeff Fisher after this season and would like him to return for the 2016 season, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

But it is not known whether Fisher wants to return.

Fisher, who signed a five-year, $35 million contract in 2012, is under contract through the 2016 season. Fisher's record in St. Louis is 25-35-1.

The Rams are 5-8 on the season and play Thursday night against the Buccaneers. St. Louis defeated the Lions 21-14 on Sunday to end a five-game losing streak in which it lost by 24 points three times during the skid.

Fisher fired offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti on Dec. 7 and promoted Rob Boras to the position.

Entering Thursday night's game, the Rams are 31st in the NFL in yards per game (297.9) and offensive points per game (16.2) and last in passing yards per game (173.1) and first downs (190).

In Fisher's first three seasons in St. Louis, the Rams have finished 23rd, 30th and 28th in the NFL in yards per game. They've ranked 28th, 22nd and 23rd in offensive points scored per game, never with an average higher than 19.

The Rams traded for quarterback Nick Foles in the offseason and signed him to a three-year extension in August, but the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback was benched in November for his ineffective play in favor of Case Keenum.

Fisher deserves to be canned. They have a ton of high drafted talent on that roster and they continue to under perform. A Head Coach that actually wants Case Keenum to be his starting QB doesn't deserve to keep his job, I don't care how poorly Foles may have played.

Maybe Rams ownership is happy with team winning 8-9 games max a season. If that's the case, Fisher is your guy.

If you want your team to play .500 football you would be hard pressed to find a better coach. He still swindled the Eagles out of a 2nd round pick for Sam Bradford. Casey Keenum, Nick Foles and Sam Bradford are essentially the same QB.
