LA a little closer to getting a NFL Team(s)

HOUSTON -- The NFL's six-owner committee on Los Angeles opportunities recommended the project headed by the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders to build a $1.7 billion stadium in Carson, California, sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports.

The Orange County Register reported that the committee made its recommendation on a 5-1 vote, with Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt opposing the recommendation.

Any move must be approved by 24 of the NFL's 32 owners. The committee's recommendation does not guarantee approval of the project by the full ownership, which is meeting in Houston to discuss the matter.

St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke, meanwhile, has proposed to build a $1.86 billion stadium in Inglewood, California.

Earlier Tuesday, the league made a presentation on the stadium proposals in the home markets of San Diego, St. Louis and Oakland, clearing the way for all three teams to be eligible to move.

The Rams presented their project on Inglewood first, followed by the Chargers and Raiders -- which included Disney CEO Bob Iger, who is a consultant to the group. The NFL made the final presentation.

Disney is the parent company of ESPN.

A proposal that would move the St. Louis Rams and a team to be determined to a yet-to-be-built stadium in Inglewood, California, leads 20-12 after the first round of owners' voting, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
Despite the early lead, no official decision has been made, as the necessary threshold of 24 of 32 votes has yet to be reached.
A San Diego Chargers-Oakland Raiders partnership that would put the two teams in a stadium in Carson, California, is the other proposal under consideration.
The vote is being administered via secret ballot, according to ESPN's Andrew Brandt.

Feel bad for St Louis. A good Football city has now had 2 teams yanked away by greedy owners. LA has yet to support a team, and they've had 3 different chances. Maybe 4th times the charm?
I'm glad at least the Raiders stay in Oakland.

After 21 seasons in St. Louis, the Rams have been given approval among NFL owners to relocate back to Los Angeles, their prior home from 1946-1994. Rams Owner Stan Kroenke's stadium proposal in Inglewood along with a negotiated partnership with Chargers Chairman/President Dean Spanos ultimately won the support of enough owners to approve of the move.
The stadium is reportedly available to be completed in time for the 2019 stadium. It is expected that the Coliseum, the current home of the USC Trojans, would be able to host teams prior to the stadium's construction. There is currently a clause preventing two professional teams from using the stadium concurrently. It's believed that clause is up for potential discussion with the news of the NFL relocation effort. If the clause is not rescinded, there are other options to fall back on.

The Oakland Raiders, on the other hand, will remain in Oakland with potential financial assistance from the NFL:

They supported the Rams for almost 50 years. If not for their former idiot owner and St Louis native, they never would have left.

The Rams were in the bottom 1/4 of NFL attendance in their final LA years and couldn't even get support for a stadium in LA, but had to play in Anaheim.

Los Angeles supported all their teams. They were the city that had the teams yanked from them. First by the murderer Georgia and then by Crazy Al.

It's the 2nd largest metro area in the country FFS. Just the broadcasting rights alone will be enough to support this team.

Their final years. Georgia kept threatening to move the team, and once the Cardinals left for Arizona, she low balled Dickerson, which led to his being traded, then squandered their draft picks on players like Aaron Cox.

I hear the Chargers might have a leg up on being the 2nd LA team cause the stadium in San Diego isn't up to par with NFL standards. Everyone there is in agreement that they need a new stadium but no one is helping finance one including the city.

Personally I think it's ridiculous to make the city or it's taxpayers fund any part of a new stadium. The owners are all billionaires, let them pay for them.
