I just read that. I thought the guy was somewhere around 27. Had no idea he was pushing 31. Best rb and best wr in Lions history both retire very early. Haha

I know after taxes and agent fees it's probably only around $50 million. If he invested his money well and didn't go crazy on extravagant purchases he's set for the rest of his life. The balance of his contract he was due to earn another $67 million if it wasn't renegotiated. The Lions were never going to pay him the $15.9 million he was due next year unless he did renegotiate. I would think it would have been redone so they would have guaranteed about $20 million. The balance was for 4 years. The question is does he want to take the punishment and play another two of the next four years.

As a businessman he should just let Lions release him in place of restructuring his deal. No way they pay him 16 mil a season. If he retires he will be obligated to pay team back over 3 mil from signing bonus. If released, he would be a free agent and could either kick back and decide he is 100% ready to retire or wait and see if a better team reaches out to him. A year or two catching passes from say Brady, Flacco or even Rogers could be tempting.

He won't be released so its all about what Detroit will take for him and what a team will pay.....

2nd? 3rd? 4th round pick?

Must be tough to count down the time of another time in order for your team to win?

Oh, it freakin sucks, but it is about time. Manning and Colts would have another couple of Super Bowl's if it wasn't for that Northeast team. Now Luck can coast through the AFC for the next decade

What team wouldn't trade a 2nd round pick for a reasonably priced Calvin Johnson if you get him for 3 solid years. Most 2nd round picks end up being nobody's. Especially if you are a team who will likely be picking towards the end of the 2nd round which are the only teams that would want him and that he would want to play for.

Belichick got Moss for a 4th rounder.....and restructure to his contract.

But as of right now Detroit isn't getting anything for him....

That's not relevant. There's going to be more teams in the market for a generational talent, who happens to be a great dude, coming off a 1,200 yard/9 TD season than there was for a malcontent coming off a 500 yard/3 TD season. More teams in the market = higher price. Supply and demand. This situation is very different than Moss.

I understand the difference, but lets see what happens. I'm sure the price will be higher than that of Moss's I'm just pointing out that not every team is going to line up with 2nd rounders for the guy, considering what his cap numbers are.
