race#1 - 8f
3 GREEN JUICE (8-5)
5 RICHMOND COUNTY (4-1)

.... GREEN JUICE likely lone speed for McMahon/Broberg favorite. RICHMOND COUNTY gets switch to G.Money for Amoss.

race#2 - 5f
7 JAKE JOURDAN (8-1)
1 WALKINROUNDLUCKY (15-1)
5 QUALITY GUY (3-1)

.... Fairly competitive field. I can only pitch out the 4,6. WALKINROUNDLUCKY will gun from the start, will most likely lead in the stretch and try and hold on. During the past 2 weeks, that has been the strategy used by 77% of the upsetters. I won't hesitate to play him over 20-1. JAKE JOURDAN seems likest to pressure and collapse foe. Logical fav on paper, QUALITY GUY, will be closing late. Expecting improvement from #6 BARNABAS (6-1) and a good effort from #2 NETCENTS (9-2).
Superfecta 7/1,2,5,8

race#3 - 6.5f
7 FATHER OF STORMS (12-1)
10 WILD APPOINTMENT (9-2)
9 PROMISCUOUS FORCE (5-2)

.... Blinks go on #1 DEVINE TEACHING, so we should have some pace although it might be a 2nd flight duel. WILD APPOINTMENT should be favored on the drop. PROMISCUOUS FORCE could get best trip from outside. I'll try FATHER OF STORMS, on the drop, stretching with McMahon being added. Bomb alert: #8 ASAMI (20-1) makes 2nd start for Contreras/Myers, they have finished in the money with their last 5 of 6 with the one miss being a 33-1 shot. Their last bomb was a 40-1 shot at LAD on 6-24-2015. Would be worthy to checkout.

race#4 - 8f
7 BONITA'S GIFT (4-1)
5 ELLA'S TOP CAT (5-2)
4 PRINCE ORTHODOX (9-2)

.... BONITA'S GIFT speed to spare. ELLA'S TOP CAT prefers underneath scores. PRINCE ORTHODOX rebounds.

race#5 - 6.5f
8 GATOR JACK (12-1)
6 PARKERS NITE OUT (7-2)
1 REINA DE DIAMANTES (3-1)

.... PARKERS NITE OUT most likely the one to beat with Saenz. I'll take GATOR JACK at a price.

rest of card to come ...

race#6 - 8f
1 WESLEY'S DREAM (5-2)
5 TRULY YOU (4-1)

.... Hard to knock WESLEY'S DREAM's last race and sheds 3-pounds to boot. TRULY YOU had tightener.

race#7 - 8f
2 NORTH LIGHT RIDGE (8-1)
1 LUCKY CAL (3-1)
5 SNOW WARRIOR (20-1)

....

race#8 - 7.5f
6 LIL ALLIE GATOR (15-1)
2 PURE TSU TSU (8-1)
4 NET'S ALL N (6-1)

.... Extremely wide open affair.

race#9 - 8f
6 RUN MARGARITA (5-2)
4 4-1 A P ZAPPER (4-1)
8 15-1 DR.SILENT (15-1)

....

race#10 - 6.5f
11 LITTLE FARMS LADY (6-1)
6 SEFA'S WATT (10-1)
4 MIDNITE DANCE (12-1)

....

Good luck!

Wow! Could I have done any worse? Don't think it's possible if I were trying.
Couldn't catch a winner boxing 10 horses in a 9 horse field.
You'd think I never ever played the bullring before.
Nice.
Where's that flaming money picture?? I need a flaming sheets picture.

Being new to this part of the Forum I thought I would start out right away with a really dumb question. What track are these horses running at and is it the same one all the time unless specified. Going to Off Track betting place this aft and thought I would get instantly smart. Thanks for any help. Actually will throw very little money around but would like to have some semblance of a chance to win. Just me picking has absolutely no chance.

Most horses ship all around from track to track depending on the time off the year and what circuits are running.
A complete list of tracks, abbreviations, and racing dates can be found at http://www1.drf.com/entries/racingdates.html
Not all those tracks run thoroughbred races, some run quarter horses.
I posted a "weather links" thread on this forum a page or two old that has all thoroughbred tracks

This thread was for Delta Downs (DED) in Louisiana, "DED 2/04" title meant just Delta Downs on Feb. 4th.
Normally we post specific track when playing multiple cards. Sorry if that was confusing.

I don't know about "instantly smart" but some have shown brilliance on occasion.

Welcome and good luck.

Prof, Thank you very much for your info. Worked all over the Twin Cities before retiring. Been to Cantebury many times with my buddy but can't remember ever needing a Brinks truck to take home the winnings. Still have 2 kids up in the Elk River area so have some roots still mulling around. Also, pretty sure that DED is one of the tracks on off track here in Glendale/Peoria area so I will look for your insight and give it a go. Thanks again, much appreciated.

I don't play any particular track. Usually I target tougher cards with a chance at payoffs.
Don't often post picks but will handicap any card on request if it's early enough.

I'm in Rogers (about 5 miles south of Elk River). Moved here from Detroit about 7 years ago.
Canterbury has gotten so bad THEY don't even need a Brinks truck to haul the money away.

Post the next time you're planning an OTB visit and I'll see if I can find a couple nuggets.

Prof, I will be going to the OTB parlor this coming Friday. I usually get there around 1:30 our time (2:30 yours) and stay for about 3 or 4 hours. Off the top of my head the Tracks are Hollywood, Santa Anita, Aqueduct, Gulfstream, Fair Grounds, Keeneland and Delta Downs. I will check it out and make sure I am right on as far as tracks available to wager on. I will go down there Wednesday and check it out. Any changes, I will let you know.
Thanks again, am looking forward to this venture. The OTB place is less than a mile away from my house. I was just thinking that I have never seen a quarter horse race there or harness race for that matter, not sure I would spend any money on either of them. Maybe they are on later in the aft or at night. Thanks again, I'll fill you in Wednesday night.

Prof, had all the info up and then hit the wrong button and everything disappeared. Try again. The simulcast is for Friday aft. Gulfstream Park-11:05, Races 2-10; Aqueduct-11:20, Races 2-9; Tampa Bay Downs-11:25; Oaklawn Park-11:30; Fairgrounds-12:26; Golden Gate-1:45; Santa Anita-2:00; Sunland Park-3:15; Delta Downs-4:40. I will be there for the first race played and leave around 5 or so. I'll put $20 on the pick of the day for you. Already have a couple of ideas on payment if winner. I don't think any of this is illegal in any way. I will look for your pics around 10:00 on Friday morning, the programs will be out tomorrow morning is what I was told. I have no clue how you get your hands on the handicapping programs but you probably already know that end of it. Thanks and good luck.

Any tracks you prefer? What type bets do you like ... straight? exotic?

Yeah, already have them all pre-capped.
OP 6th looks to be most competitive of the day so I'll likely be playing that one myself.

You won't owe me nothing if you win.

Prof, I really don't know hardly anything about horses so in all honesty that means I know less about the tracks they run on. I do know and like the greyhounds but dogs are hard to find now. Whatever you are OK with, I also will be OK. In dogs I would bet the Trifectas, Quinellas, Supers, WPS $5 across, Keys, 1 w/3, Box 4 Trifecta, am familiar with dog wagers but not horses but will try anything. I know a lot of the guys like to wager the pick 4 in Santa Anita. I am very open minded to anything you might suggest. I never get too wild but am comfortable in the $20-$30 range per race. I know a lot of guys bet a ton more but am not out to break the bank or me, just have some fun and have a little action going on while drinking some beer. Thanks.

It is imperative to determine how Tampa Bay is playing, favoring early speed type horses, or late running types. To do this, just pay attention to overall movement in the stretch of the field. Is anyone passing anyone? Are the lead horses finishing in the same order thru the stretch or are most of the lead horses finishing off the board and being passed by many. This will guide you to the style contenders you want to be betting.

Tampa Bay Downs r#1 - 5.5f
3 POLO ART (5-2)
5 NYOMAN (4-1)
4 CATIRE BELLO (10-1)
..... this race is more intriguing than it is playable. Jockey on POLO ART, Pompell, can bring 'magic mojo' (if you will) and is generally more successfull if he is on a speed horse like POLO ART. Jock lost his mojo when Indiana Downs closed. Indiana favors speed (frontrunner) types. He tried Turfway Park in Kentucky but his 'mojo' wasn't a trump card there. Today this might be his 1st ride on Tampa track, it can favor speed. This is Pompell's only scheduled mount on the card, and since he hasn't ridden in a month you can bet this is a must win race for him. He road POLO ART to victory in Indiana on 10-31.#5 NYOMAN is a threat with Campbell back in saddle. CATIRE BELLO is very interesting to me as a longshot. Hasn't raced since last June. Horse is now a 4yo. The natural maturity would make him a contender. He is a closer type and would need a suicidal speed duel on the front end, but if he's ready to go, it's possible. If he comes on the track with his neck bowed, looking like a prize-fighter .... that would be a very good indicator.

Tampa Bay Downs r#2 - 6f
7 DANCEWHILEITSTORMS (5-2)
3 ROSA CARINA (9-5)
.... DANCEWHILEITSTORMS should lead easily, if ROSA CARINA has no pop then this race is history. Horses can display new life in the stretch when they've been allowed to coast thru the first half of the race. ROSA CARINA is what I refer to as a 'negative drop'. The wheels fell off in last and is now dropped to basement $5k claiming price. Also gets a negative jock switch from a top jock to lower tier jock. These types are generally good to play against if they are the betting favorite.

Tampa Bay Downs r#3 - 7f
9 TOUR AGAIN (3-1)
4 GONNA BE ALRIGHT (5-1)
6 CACTUS KID (12-1)
.... this race is very wide open. If it looks like the track is speed favoring then TOUR AGAIN will prove touch in the stretch. If the track doesn't look that way then at 7-furlongs (longer than the first 2 races), I'd look at GONNA BE ALRIGHT and CACTUS KID. GONNA BE ALRIGHT gets a bug rider (less weight) but will be very far back early and try and make a big closing kick in the stretch. CACTUS KID would be a nice longshot play over 15-1. He gets a hot jockey and even after being on him in the last race has enough confidence to 'stick'. CACTUS KID will run mid-pack.

Tampa Bay Downs r#4 - 8f turf
9 ITS ALL YOU (5-1)
4 ALLABOUTTHECHASE (5-2)
.... Turf track hasn't been kind to speed lately. I like the #9 and #4 equally. I put the #9 on top because rider switch to Centeno may find her where she needs to be. ALLABOUTTHECHASE might be sitting in the cat-bird seat with good turf rider.I'll assume the also-eligible list gets scratched but WATUSI would be a player if in. Throw a dart for 3rd.

Tampa Bay Downs r#5 - 7f
14 PRETTY MASTER (6-1)
12 SINSTER BLUE (7-2)
7 UNBRIDLED MAJESTY (8-1)
.... PRETTY MASTER likely gets scratched but would be solid if goes. SINSTER BLUE lone speed if PRETTY MASTER is out. #7 UNBRIDLED MAJESTY might show nice turn move, I'll put 3rd but really wide open if speed fails.

Tampa Bay Downs r#8 - 8.5f turf
5 GLORY STYLE (20-1)
4 CHIQUE TO CHIQUE (8-1)
1 LIAR'S SMOKER (8-1)
9 BATTLE AXE (5-2)
.... Very tough race. BATTLE AXE is logical favorite and very capable but I would be looking for price plays here. GLORY STYLE won last but not so sure last race win was a fluke and could to better on turf. At a big price I would be happy to try it. CHIQUE TO CHIQUE is a nice claim and with Cruz up has a big chance to prove it. LIAR'S SMOKER will likely break quick from post 1 and get a nice lead going into the back stretch. Could go far.

Oaklawn Park
Oaklawn Park r#2 - 6f
2 CHART ROOM (9-2)
9 DENSITY (3-1)
.... CHART ROOM appears to be getting huge class relief. DENSITY looks solid on paper.

Plays I like most today:
Tampa Bay Downs r#2 - 7 DANCEWHILEITSTORMS (5-2)
Oaklawn Park r#2 - 2 CHART ROOM (9-2)
Tampa Bay Downs r#8 - 5 GLORY STYLE (20-1)
Gulfstream Park r#2 - 5 UNKNOWN (6-1) .... anything under 6-1 is a pass

Sorry I couldn't get more posted. Some other races looked too complicated to explain. Good luck.
