Free-agent NFL wide receiver Josh Morgan accidentally shot himself late last month and was later charged with a crime, TMZ Sports reported Wednesday.
According to the report, police in Virginia responded Jan. 31 to a call that a man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 9 p.m. ET. Morgan maintained that he was simply cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off.
Morgan, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, has been charged with misdemeanor reckless use of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court in March.
Morgan, 30, was selected by the 49ers in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft and went on to have stints with the Redskins and Bears.
He was also signed by the Saints in May last offseason but was released in September at final roster cuts.
