How much time off do professional gamblers take to avoid burnout?

We know for a fact that 9 out of 10 posters here are professional gamblers earning around 300K a year, so I just have the general question above...


How do you avoid burnout?

Scheduling?

Personally I am not a pro but I can tell you how I approach it b/c I look at lines year round and bank about 30-50 units year, which helps fund my annual trip to Vegas to enter the super contest.

i take one day off a week Thursday's hard to do in football season but if I want an action play on TNF I place it on Wednesday.
during all star breaks I take a week off b/c games before and after are effected. So this way I get a break in the winter (NHL) and summer(MLB). I usually plan my real work holidays around those times as well so I can really clear my head, from my job and my hobby.

i try to focus on 2 sports at a time but my handicapping time is only spent on one and usually I tail in the other one.
I have a few systems I follow for each sport as I find routine is helpful
i track the results of the systems
1-5* money management is the best way to go I usually have 1 - large play a day at pinnacle and several small action plays at a local
I never get emotional about plays so I never chase
i never bet on games after I have a few drinks.

So by applying that type of discipline and having a strategy as well as taking scheduled breaks I feel makes me better.

semi professional here .... I had to take 3 years off from 07-10 with burnout.. was doing way to much plus I was fed up with the whole Neteller and BOS mess... needed the break.. Now I skip baseball so I am fresh with football and coll Hoops.

I skip MLB too. I still get that itch to bet so I book a few tennis bets.

When football season comes around it's like Christmas morning!

How can you guys skip Baseball. Only sport with reduced juice across the board. The sport where line shopping actually matters because there are so many different lines.

I have to skip something Reno to stay fresh.....but I do get it...a lot of you swear by baseball...for me baseball was more work then the other sports when you start hashing out the pitching etc...

Well, for me this is something I have to address. I win non-stop but then overheat the engine and it blows up... and there's a huge crash. It's like a piece of equipment in a business. You can't keep it running non-stop.

I think I have to take one day off a week. Maybe Wednesday... or Friday. Friday is usually a dead day in college hoops during the season. Adjust the day off during the year according to the season.

If you're taking a break at the end of a season or mid-year, I would be inclined to believe that the energy inputs are not too excessive on a daily basis. Instead the build-up happens over several months. For myself, however, it's too intensive on a daily basis... and the system overloads. And then the subconscious mind will take over and actually force you to lose so you can take that much needed rest.

I think this is the solution. 6 days a week and staying on top of the data.

I hear you if the payout isn't worth the time. That's how it is for me and college sports, way too many games and teams. I get burned out on capping college sports.

How about taking the first monday of every month off, just to settle up, and readjust your bet size in accordance to bank roll? I've thought about doing that, but then there's Monday night football.

Pretty much 24/7/365. There is no burnout. There are times that I want to take a break but the struggle is real. Guess thats why I aint no pro.

First of all, I'm not a professional. I seldom contribute to the RX forum, although I read it regularly. Relying on gambling income only, cannot mix well with a sensible lifestyle. My process is different from most. First & foremost, I make every attempt, to not force any play. I must have solid evidence and strong opinions, to pull the trigger. Because I limit the # of plays, I also limit the time spent handicapping. My routine can be 15-45 minutes. Hours & hours of breaking stuff down will create paralysis by analysis.
After reviewing the lines, I look in depth at all important factors to me. Typically, this is an evaluation of 2-4 games per day. I rarely handicap more games and often less on the daily docket. Because I utilize the eyeball test, I mostly get involved with televised games. If I win or lose, I want to know why, for future reference. This may go against what many pros advise, but it works for me. There are many days when nothing presents itself and I'm OK with that.
When you have control, it can't control you. Absolute discipline will likely lead to more success. This strategy keeps me fresh and sane and I have not experienced the burnout, although it surely exists. As somebody said, winning is a great deodorant for this daily committment. I never feel the need for a lengthy break or season off, because of this approach. FWIW
