I won a practice round ticket for this year's Masters in the Augusta National ticket lottery. They told me when I had won they would be sending out the ticket early March. I assumed it would be sent by USPS or FedEx with a signature required. Today I get my mail and an envelope from Augusta with the ticket inside. So what exactly happens if your mail gets lost or stolen. There is a serial number on the ticket but what's to stop anyone who has a ticket from selling it, pocketing the money and reporting the ticket lost. Now the buyer is shit out of luck when he shows up at Augusta and the ticket he bought from someone is invalid. You don't have a choice to pay extra for having the ticket sent by FedEx. When I won the lottery I had to pre-pay for the ticket months ago. Somehow I can't imagine the NFL sending out Super Bowl tickets via regular mail if happen to win a ticket in their lottery. Augusta is strange. I have a private mailbox rental and they will not let you use that to receive the ticket but it's okay to have a ticket to sent a free standing mailbox in front of your house. Anyone can drive by open the lid and take the mail.

What are the odds of someone driving by opening the lid to your mailbox and taking the mail on the day your Master's Tickets arrived?

They most be Astronomical. Possibly Incalculable even.

And in regards to your rumination of someone somehow coming to have gained possession of your Ticket then selling it, pocketing the money and reporting the ticket lost.

What would be the advantage to them within that scenario of reporting the ticket lost?

After selling it and pocketing the money?

They have the money for the ticket, the Crime is accomplished. Why would they then report the ticket lost?

Congrats. Nice Score. They are kinda Old Fashioned over their at Augusta, this the Regular Mail I reckon.

i love doing this. just drive down an anonymous street and start opening mail boxes and collecting people's visa statements and gas bills so they get hit with a late payment charge the following month. that's good times right there. oh, and the pennysavers! i fn love the pennysavers! i won't even go into the furniture store blowout ads and offers to change cable and internet suppliers. other people's mail is awesome

The usps is the biggest bargain in history . Not much safer way to send anything. Look at the grateful dead ticket sales (GDTS) you had to send them a postal money order and a SASE and they put the tix in and sent em to you. Hundreds of thousands of tickets that always got there. For short money....

Seems like your best bet is to start checking mailboxes in late February of '17.

By the way I found out if the tickets happen to get lost in the mail they are not replaced. As far getting mail stolen that already happened to me when I used live in Summerlin in Las Vegas. I lived on a street which had the centralized lock boxes. About 15 years ago a crew was going around in December and broke open the back which the mailman has access with a key. Once they pried the back cover off they were able to clean out every box. Where I live now in South Jersey several of carriers are very sloppy. Other's people's mail is placed in your box, the mail box door isn't snapped shut and the mail gets soaked if it rains, more than a few times I have a piece of mail lying on the curb. I got a private mail box rental as soon as I moved to NJ and that's the address I use for all my mail. The only thing I get in my box is junk mail or the few companies that insist on a residential address only and refuse to send anything to a PMB. In this case that happens to be Augusta. I actually had to change an address on one of my credit card to buy the tickets. The mailing address had to match the billing address, no exceptions. I'm happy I won. I'm not bitching about that. On a side note many NFL teams have eliminated hard tickets. If your a season ticket holder, you can used your phone with a QR code or print the ticket with a bar code. Obviously Augusta will never do that but that's the future. Your going to see hard tickets totally eliminated for sporting and concert events.
