[h=1]Police: Mohegan Sun Casino worker stole to feed pill habit[/h] Posted: Friday, February 26, 2016 8:13 am
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a former worker at a northeastern Pennsylvania casino told them he stole about $26,000 to feed his prescription painkiller habit.
Online court records don't list an attorney for 41-year-old James Benczkowski (benz-KOW'-skee), but state police say the Duryea man confessed to taking the money from the Mohegan Sun Casino near Wilkes-Barre.
Another employee believed Benczkowski was stealing and tipped off casino officials. Casino president Mike Bean says only that the worker is no longer employed.
Police say Benczkowski would steal the money while paying off casino winners. He did that by drawing more money than the players won, and then keeping the difference. He allegedly did that 523 times between May 2014 and September.
The worker tells police he used the money to pop 20 Vicodin pills a day:ohno:.

The Korean government has awarded Mohegan Sun a license to develop an entertainment resort in South Korea.

Bobby Soper, president of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and former president and CEO of Mohegan Sun Pocono in Plains Township, announced the license was awarded to the authority along with partners KCC Corporation and Incheon International Airport Corp.

The resort will be built at Incheon International Airport in Korea.

“We are pleased with the Korean government’s decision to award us the opportunity to help fulfill their vision of driving economic development by growing tourism, creating jobs, and showcasing Korean culture via the integrated resort,” Soper said in a statement.

Mohegan Sun’s multi-phase development project is named “Project Inspire.”

The project will include a three-tower luxury hotel complex with 1,350 rooms, luxury retail brands, 20 food and beverage concepts and a Korean cosmetics and beauty hub.

It will house the largest entertainment arena in South Korea with capacity for up to 15,000 attendants for acts, cultural and arena sport events, according to casino officials.

Additionally, it will include a Paramount Studios-themed indoor-outdoor amusement park with high-tech rides; an Eco Adventure Park featuring indoor rock climbing, zip lining, an indoor rainforest and an archaeology experience and a casino with 250 table games and 1,500 slot machines

It will be the first and only destination resort in the world with an adjacent private air terminal, according to the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.

Phase one of Project Inspire is estimated at $1.6 billion, with a commitment total of $5 billion over multiple phases.

“KCC is thrilled that its partnership with the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has been awarded the opportunity to develop this exciting and transformative integrated resort which will be instrumental in bringing new generations of tourists to Incheon,” KCC Chairman Chung Mong-Jin said in a statement.

House still wins when it loses :discuss:

In 2013 , the national minimum wage in South Korea remained fixed at 722 € per month, that is 8,664 euros per year, taking into account 12 payments per year

As of right now, 1 Euro = ? $ ?

BTW majority of jobs pay 7.25 an hour @ Plains Casino with free employee meals while on the clock Bowling^&%

I've taken prescription pain pills post-surgery and never noticed any difference. Do pill poppers take 2, 3, 4 times the recommended dose? In fact, I've never finished off the pills (I've gotten 10 pills prescribed 3 times in the last 5 years and never took more than 4 or 5 of the 10 pills).

Opioids are very habit forming and the withdrawals are horrible. Just like kicking heroin at that level

Ex-casino worker faces trial in theft case

SARAH SCINTO, STAFF WRITER

Published: March 30, 2016
PLAINS TWP. — A former Mohegan Sun Pocono employee accused of stealing more than $25,000 from the casino will face charges in Luzerne County court.

At a preliminary hearing Tuesday, James Clayton Benczkowski, of Duryea, waived charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property onto Luzerne County Court. Magisterial District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo withdrew a third charge of theft by deception at the hearing.

State police said Benczkowski worked as a slot supervisor at the casino and used the money he stole to buy prescription painkillers from a casino patron who is related to another employee.

Police started investigating Benczkowski in September.

According to a criminal complaint, Benczkowski would fill out fraudulent “paid out” slips when resolving patron disputes involving the slot machines. The casino audited all of his transactions, finding that of 523 transactions Benczkowski initiated between May 2014 and September, 314 involved theft, police said.

The total loss was $26,152, according to police.

Benczkowski is no longer employed at the casino.

The alleged theft marked the second time this year a casino employee was accused of cheating the business. In January, state police charged three people — including Robert Joseph Pellegrini, the casino’s former vice president of player development — with using $478,100 in free slot play to win $418,793 between May 2, 2014, and April 4, 2015.

Benczkowski will be arraigned on the remaining charges on June 2 at 9 a.m. in Luzerne County Court.

PLAINS TWP. — Three former employees at Mohegan Sun Casino are facing charges they rigged a $10,000 Easter sweepstakes in 2014, including one executive already serving federal prison time.
Robert Joseph Pellegrini, 52, a former vice president of player development, Colin Ray Boecker, 32, and Kenneth Rowlands, 32, allegedly conspired with Mark Heltzel, 53, to rig the selection of plastic eggs that contained cash prizes and free slot credits, according to criminal complaints filed Tuesday.
Heltzel was aware that a certain plastic egg contained the grand prize of $10,000, which he selected on April 27, 2014, and provided some of the cash to Pellegrini, Boecker and Rowlands, the criminal complaints say
Pellegrini, of Fairview Township, is currently serving a 32-month federal prison sentence for his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection to an unrelated scheme at the casino.
Pellegrini, Heltzel, of Dallas, and former casino waitress Rochelle Poszeluznyj, of Kingston, were charged in 2016 in the scheme that ran from May 2014 o April 2015 and involved the theft of personal information numbers from gamblers. The numbers were then used to create duplicate rewards cards with $478,000 in Bonus Play credits.
Heltzel gambled with the cards and split the winnings with Pellegrini and Poszeluznyj who stole the PINs.
Heltzel was sentenced in August 2017 to 18-months in federal prison for his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit money laundering. Poszeluznyj was sentenced to six months on house arrest two years probation for her role.
Pellegrini, Boecker and Rowlands are each charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. The charges were filed by the state police gaming enforcement bureau.
