That's crazy. At least they get part of it back during divorce .

a wedding is nothing more than going to church followed by a drunken meal yet people spending wild amounts of money for 1 single evening knowing that eventually they will split up.

Don't do it.

Jokes aside, I'm against spending money on weddings. Not married, and don't wanna be, but told my girl's mom if they wanted to blow $10-50k plus, we would rather have a down payment on a mountain retreat for everyone. Win win instead of just pissing money away...

I would get everyone to go on vacation together so at least we get more out of it than food and alcohol as well.

Nada, I'm.not married, & don't plan on getting married.

But everyone I know that's married, the girls father paid for the wedding......the man doesn't have to fork over any money for the wedding.......my sisters friend got married in 2001, he father spent $135,000.......about 600 people attended the wedding........its crazy the money people spend on weddings, then again, those same people think its crazy how us gamblers gamble money away.

Traditionally this is true but it's not always the case. A lot of parents simply don't have 25-75k to spend on a wedding. I know a lot of couples who were forced to fund their wedding themselves

I think most rational people would agree with that. But the wedding is the one thing rational people behave totally irrational about.

My father in law spent over 50k for the wedding. Blew all that money in one night that we could have used as a down payment on a house, funded our future childrens college education, etc etc etc. It's crazy really.

We spent maybe $300....her MOH comped us two nights suite at Hilton Ft Lauderdale and other family members collectively funded a reception of maybe $6-700.

SheBar's a JAP and many of her people spend even more insanely for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Her niece and husband who enjoy annual income in the $200k range spent almost $100k for each of their two daughters Bot Mitzvahs

And now they are sweating (mostly figuratively) the youngest daughter's upcoming four years at Penn U

I think it was about $ 40 a head back in 1984, so that means our parents spent about 9k collectively

it may have been a little less, something in the $ 30's

Wife's parents easily spent $60,000. My parents covered a $3,000 rehearsal dinner and probably around a $7,000 honeymoon. Meanwhile the night before me and the guys went out after the rehearsal dinner and I won about $12,000 at the casino and pocketed every penny of it. I didn't want anything extravagant but my wife always did and her parents had saved since she was little. My guess is most of her wedding fund was there years before and made on the stock market. Felt a little guilty about what my parents paid for so that Xmas I gave them a $5,000 check on the side as a thank you. Only felt right considering I had won money the night before.
