Had a very good Pro Day. Even though Bama's RB usually don't seem to do that well...I have a different feeling about this guy.

He even stepped in as a WR on pro day to help out because they were short on WR...and he surprised everyone with how good his hands were.

I think with the right team, Henry will have a hell of a career...

He won the 2012 Maxwell Club National High School Player of the Year award after setting a national record for career rushing yards (12,124, including 4,261 in his senior season) and scored 153 touchdowns. Then, despite breaking his leg in spring practices after graduating early from Yulee High (Florida), Henry averaged more than 10 yards per carry as a true freshman for the Tide (35-382, 3 TDs) and scored on a 61-yard reception -- his only one of the season. Even though the 6-3, 242-pound back started just two games as a sophomore, Henry consistently shared carries with T.J. Yeldon, covering 990 yards on just 172 totes (5.8 per) and scoring 11 times. He topped off his collegiate career by winning the 2015 Heisman Trophy, along with the Doak Walker, Maxwell, Walter Camp Player of the Year awards. The unanimous first-team All-American led the nation with 2,219 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns last fall, more or less winning the Heisman by racking up 213 yards and three touchdowns against LSU in a showdown with fellow trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette (who had 31 yards for the game). His true "Heisman moment" came after he already owned the hardware, as he came up huge in the national championship game win over Clemson, carrying the pail 36 times for 167 yards and three scores.

Can be a violent runner without even trying. Pummels tacklers with forward lean and dynamite behind his pads. Gives run-*support cornerbacks bad dreams. Rare top*-end speed for a runner his size. Long strides from second to third level cut into reaction time for safeties and often leave them a step short and grasping for air. Effective in zone, gap and power schemes. Rarely fatigues and wears down defenses as game goes on. Had 29.6 percent of his explosive carries come in the fourth quarter. Makes consistent, initial reads as a zone runner. Against Mississippi State, took outside zone run and cut it all the way back across formation out*racing defense for 65-yard touchdown. Led nation in missed tackles forced with 60. Uses subtle change of direction on the second level while keeping runs north/south. Used as a possession bully in short yardage spots and when Alabama wanted to impose their will.

[h=4]WEAKNESSES[/h] With almost 400 touches this year, scouts are concerned about his workload. Averaged almost 32 carries against SEC competition including 90 carries over his final two regular season games. Tall, long-strider who takes time to build up his speed. Average foot quickness can lead to tackles for losses if he gets too cute in the backfield. Needs to improve his second read as a zone runner. Ineffective in passing game with below average hands. Narrow based running style allows defenders to trip him up. More run*-finisher than tackle breaker with just seven broken tackles to Leonard Fournette's 22. Sluggish cut*back ability once he's outside the tackle box.

[h=4]NFL COMPARISON[/h] Brandon Jacobs

[h=4]BOTTOM LINE[/h] Bell-cow running back with an ability to strap on feedbag and eat for four quarters. Henry's long legs and angular running style is a much better fit for downhill running teams who value lead backs and physicality. Henry needs early running room as he's not a creator in the backfield, but once he gets up a full head of steam, he is a nightmare with his ability to punish on the second and third level or take it to the house. Henry should come in and provide immediate production as a starter

Agree on the part that he has to be with right offense. Ideally he gets on a power downhill scheme and he looks like a physical beast. The 4th grinder on a team. Brandon Jacobs is a good comparison. For as massive and powerful as he is, he doesn't run like the powerback you would expect. Doesn't get low enough and isn't someone you can just slam against the line. He's not elusive and takes to long getting up to speed. Could be a really good player on the right team but doesn't separate himself enough to not be just another running back.

GOOD LUCK ON THE TITANS:
http://www.todayspigskin.com/tennessee-titans/titans-dedicated-exotic-smashmouth-offense/

Derrick Henry entered the draft as the biggest running back in the 2016 class. Measuring in at 6-foot-3, 242 pounds, Henry has the size of an NFL linebacker. But he doesn’t run like one.
Henry won the Heisman trophy in 2015 after rushing for 2,219 yards on an eye-popping 395 carries and scored 28 touchdowns. His bruising style of play allowed him to shake off defenders and rack up yards after contact, as he averaged a phenomenal 105.3 yards after first contact per game in 2015.
If that doesn’t scream “smashmouth,” nothing does.
With both Murray and Henry in the backfield, the Titans look poised to implement a more old-school type of offense, one that focuses on pounding the rock rather than torching defenses through the air. But the Titans’ offense isn’t just a “smashmouth” offense; no, as Mularkey put it, Tennessee will also be exotic with its smashing of mouths.

That guy will have a short shelf life. All time leading rusher in high school history. Carried the ball a ton at Alabama and he is huge. Big backs don't seem to last very long except for Bettis.

Could be another Ron Dayne who also was huge and had a shitload of carries

Who knows about any of these first or second round draft picks. One thing
about Henry is he has been successful at every level he's played football.

He is faster than most people realize and he has a great attitude and work
ethic. The Alabama players loved the guy so his locker room presence with
Tennessee will be a plus.

Saban said he was one of the hardest working players he has had at Alabama.

Nice start to the 2021 season

Henry will take his 783 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns into a Week 7 date against a Chiefs defense that is giving up an astonishing 133.2 rushing yards per game and 29.3 points per contest. Henry could be in store for another massive performance.

i remember when he was coming out of HS the Rivals' head scout, Mike Farrell, said he would never be a college RB and would have to switch to Inside LB at Alabama. A Heisman Trophy, national champ ring, and 3 NFL rushing titles later....

RB room one year was King Henry, TJ Yeldon, Kenyan Drake, Altee Tenpenny (RIP), Tyren Jones, and Alvin Kamara.

A few years ago, he killed my fantasy team as he sucked.

Then later in the season (i want to say on thursday nite football) he went off.

He's been a pure stud since then

Did a young Josh Jacobs and Damien Harris cross paths with Henry at Bama or am I off a year?

the DH's played in 2015 together but Harris was just a frosh and barely played, Henry won the Heisman and took all the carries

Jacobs came in the following year after that and played all 3 years with Harris. I don't remember Jacobs ever starting a game...always 3rd down back like Kenyan Drake.

The 2017 RB group was pretty insane too....Harris, BoScarb, Najee, Jacobs, and Robinson so 3 NFL starters and one on the way. I remember BoScarb getting taken by Cowboys and playing for the Lions but not sure he's in NFL anymore. As a freshman he was on that 2015 team with Henry, Drake, and Harris. But 5 NFL draft picks from the '17 group says enough

When will Robinson get drafted/how good do you think he’ll be at the pro level?

I really didn't think he would last long in the NFL. I thought maybe a few decent years at best. Especially because of his size, I didn't think his knees would hold up as long as they have. Dude is a beast, his hard work every off season is paying off.
