i know there was a computer thread here once before but i cant find it. my computer has crashed, basically, and i need to get something new. should i try a mac or get another dell or what? i dont do much other than some simple excel stuff and get on internet etc. no movies, games or anything like that. would i be better off calling dell or just going to best buy and buying something from there. i cant stand waiting on computers so i want to get something that is going to be plenty of power/speed for what i need. and service would be nice as well. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Last time mine crashed I immediately drove to Office Depot and bought one. They try to sell you on the hard drive, but really they're so big now that it doesn't really matter. Look for something with a good processor and has more ram.

If you want the Best, and Fastest ... look for a laptop that has a 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor, you can go as low as an i5
stay away from and AMD or Celeron processors.

You could do it yourself with a Flash drive, or if you buy it from best buy, you can have the Geek Squad do it... i think it's like $39.95 or something. they will take every file and place on the new laptop.

Anything you buy will almost surely be better than what you have. If you are an average user (documents, surf the internet, look up porn, etc) buy one of the cheapest Dell's online you can find and you will be golden. Since it's new you will be amazed how fast it seems until you bog it down with viruses and malware.

Just shop around for the best deal. If you're not gaming or doing heavy graphics editing, anything new now should be good for browsing and computer basics. Even if you stream the occasional video should be okay without extra ram or ssd hd although those are common now. Dell website is always throwing a special out there for last years model when the new line comes in. Worth checking out, many other sites as well = NewEgg, Bestbuy, Tiger,AbesOfMaine, etc - hundreds of sites to shop.

If you buy a new computer get one with an SSD hard drive. They're supposed to be lightyears faster than the old harddrives.

macbook pro off the rack at best buy. i just went in and asked for the best one they had and thats what they gave me. prob more than what i'll ever need but i like to be on the safe side and hopefully this will last me for several yrs. I'm not used to a mac so it may take a little time figuring everything out. but so far i like the looks of it

you might have to throw out everything you have learned about computers, and start over again.
