Need help with Windows 10 Question

My buddy who has a Toshiba laptop got a thing on his computer saying to upgrade to Windows 10.He told me that he said no to it but it upgraded his computer anyways and he lost some files and stuff on his computer and he cant find it.So my question is when the laptop upgraded to Windows 10 would it wipe out files from his computer or did it store it somewhere.He hates the upgrade to Windows 10 and I'm not a computer expert.Any help would be great on this and thanks in advice.

There is a few different places it may have gone. User accounts/ setup administrator rights/ restore hidden files/ C:\Windows.old folder / etc

Check out this thread for more help because each one would have to be tried and walked through since its after the fact ...the good news is he should be able to locate most of it and next time back up his personal docs/pics to an external harddrive or flash drive first.

i just bought a new toshiba with windows 10 and i like it.i have touch screen,laptop,presentation,tablet,and 2 other features on it.everything is so much easier for me cause its all on the main screen and i just have to taap it with my finger and zap,im right there.
