Nevada Sportsbooks Have Another Big Month, With $363 Million In Handle

Dustin Gouker, March 30, 2016

February, the NFL and sportsbooks, at a glance

It was another good month for Nevada’s sportsbooks, which took the most bets for any February on record, with a handle of about $363 million.
The books won nearly $28 million across all sports. Revenue was also up, year-over-year:

The Super Bowl between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers was a big part of that. Preliminary figures on just the Super Bowl showed $132.5 million wagered on the game itself, with the books holding $13.3 million.

Other sports and betting in February

It was also a big month for basketball wagering, featuring the middle of the NBA season and the end of the college basketball regular season. More than $204 million was wagered on basketball in February, with about $13.4 million staying with the books.
About $28 million was wagered on all other sports (not football and basketball) combined, with books winning about $2 million.
The full numbers can be seen here.

The upward trend continues for Nevada

The last few months have brought new high-water marks for the sportsbooks:

More than $800 million has been wagered in Nevada in the first two months of this year. Although it’s still early in 2016, another record year could be in store, based on the early numbers.
The amount wagered in March — typically another strong month because of March Madness and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament — should provide another good indicator for the rest of the year.

I'm seeing all kinds of options that we never had here before too, like Euro basketball leagues, NCAA Hockey, and way more Soccer leagues than ever before, I think Westgate has over 20 different leagues now.

No they don't, but I can make bets from the Westgate app in Reno, just have to go to Vegas to get funds in and out. Westgate and William Hill are the best for soccer. Westgate has the most though. 3 way lines are no where as good as they offshore, the 2 way lines are the standard 20 cents though. Westgate has the big ones plus Russian, Dutch, Belgium, Danish, Norwegian, Portugese, Swedish, Turkish, Argentinian ect.

Westgate is competing with offshore books that offered all those other sports for years. They finally got smart.

I think the app is why. Like offshore you see them right there on your own screen, so you know about it. When you go to the window, most really aren't looking for that and already know what they want to bet.
