Well, he's not my cousin, but he is a native New Yorker who follows the Yankees and baseball in general religiously. He is not a serious gambler, only entering the odd pool now and then and playing parlay tickets at the local bar during football season, typically losing 2 of 3 games picked, etc. So, I wanted to see how he does in baseball. I don't know if he'll turn out to be a mush in baseball too or he'll win or just be average. Let's find out. Hopefully Vinny will give us consistent winners or consistent losers.

First pick is the Bombers lose opening day.

Astros (Keuchel) -122
Rationale - the Yanks suck against leftys, especially this guy, and the cold will favor him even more. Vinny also likes the total of under 7, as he expects a 3-1 type game. Yanks bullpen should be good this year, says he.

GL this season everyone!

Are you suggesting we FADE your guy? In the above, we'd be taking the NYY and the OVER? :think2:

Just want to confirm protocol. Thanks in advance.
I'll monitor this to see if your guy really is as bad as you make him out to be. @)

No-not at first. You shouldn't play them either way imo. I just wanted to start posting these to see if a trend develops either way. Sorry not to be clear. I'm playing them for beer money for the first few weeks. Hopefully after a dozen or so plays we see that he's either really good or really bad.

In the 20's today in NY. Wind chill (13-15mph) in the teens. 20% humidity. Wind across field according to weather underground (blowing from third to first). No surprise that he's going with the juice so far (of course he doesn't know that). Lets see how he does. Again I'm playing these small until (hopefully) a trend develops one way or the other.

2 plays so far:

Tomorrow Vin likes the Yanks to win. Think Pineda's slider will be on - ball gripable. Weather cold (low 40s) but humidity higher (30s) and low (5-8mph wind)
Note: Vin says if he doesn't have hos slider he may well get lit up, but he thinks it will be there.

Additional rationale: he's looked good in Spring trainin, contract year and the batters are facing a righty. Line up to -130 now. GLTA

Vinny loves the Yanks again today. His reasons:

The Astros # 3 starter is hurt
So they're throwing the # 4 starter out there
He had a losing record last year on a team that scores mad runs
And oh yeah he's a righty … this line up can kill righty's
They're bats are hot .. really love the way they answered every time the astros scored
Plus one of the Astro thumpers is out … Gaddis is a big part of their offense

(Stander) Possible league-wide trend: I think I read on the forum last year that teams do well after putting up a dozen of so runs. Might be mistaken. Wouldn't be the first time!

Vin likes the Tigers today.

Fri 4/8 963 Detroit Tigers L Severino-R/J Zimmermann-R -114

Reasons:
* Typically, last year, the Yankees didn't do well when they have to travel and play a game immediately (ie no travel day) and lose the first game of the new series. This might be because there are a lot of older guys on the squad.
* This will be a cold cold game - around freezing. While the Yanks might be a little more used to playing in the cold, Serviano has a lot of pitches and it will be harder for him to grip the ball in the cold (that was why Pineda got lit up in game 2.)
* Zimmerman pitched for the Nationals last year so the Yankee bats have not seen him a lot.

(Stander) FWIW, this play lines up with the Falcon's. Last time that happened in the Yankee opener, it was a W. (Keep in mind Vinny doesn't know about the RX, the Falcon's program plays, etc.) GLTA!

Vin likes the Bombers today

Sat 4/9, 1:10PM 917 New York Yankees C Sabathia-L / M. Pelfry-R (listed) -105

The guys who sat yesterday should go today. McCann has hit Pelfrey well.
Vin thinks the boys are a bit pissed about being asked why they rested these guys etc.
CC played all those years in Cleveland and has seen the Tigers a lot and had success in the past.
But the big man a big question mark, but the Yanks bats should heat up from the poor showing yesterday against rightie Pelfrey.
Might be a high scoring game, but Yanks bats and bullpen will pull this one out.

(Stander) starting lineups not released yet. Hopefully the boys field a full-strength side today.

Great start for Vinny! I hope he stays hot. He is purely a "gut" picker - he is by no means a number cruncher or any kind of a statistician. Just a guy who loves baseball and loves the Yankees. Still fills out the cards when he watches the games.... so I guess he internalizes all the shit... not sure. Maybe he is just Joe Public on a lucky streak. Only time will tell.

On to Sunday Night baseball! #1 starters going tomorrow night. Hope CC can keep this up and he will be a strong 5-slot pitcher this year. (Of course he had *pretty good* run support).

Another note: Resting of players will be a trend according to yesterday's presser with Joe. He got a lot of shit for resting 3 starters at once so I don't know if he'll do that again but he said that last year the boys were fatigued at the end of the season (ie he got a boatload of crap for it being his fault) and he had to manage for the long term. So watch out for him giving guys the day off when there's no travel/rest day.

Also,Severino had no run support and all the hits off him were singles. He's better than his first start and last season's results indicate. The boys just haven't hit for him so far (or last year), but Joe obviously is aware of that and will look to change it.

Vin likes the Bombers tonight

4/12/16 7:05pm* MLB*Baseball**961 New York Yankees*+106**vs*Toronto Blue Jays* (M Tanaka - R must Start***A Sanchez - R must Start)

Tanaka has been phenomenal against the Jays and the Yanks have the edge in the bullen
The Yanks are usually weak in game ones but have had two days rest. Plus they face a lefty coming up and this is a real chance for a W. This game will well determine the series outcome. The boys are swinging the bats well and hopefully someone will put some good wood on Sanchez, who has been a great starter and has a good record against everyone but Beltran.

No McCann tonight for the Yanks, FYI. Replacement is Austin Romine (sp?) a career .198 hitter

Happ a lefty (Yanks have problems with powerful lefties) and good record vs bombers
McCann out and Vin thinks he might not be the only one, possibly Beltran as well (Joe might put in Hicks - a rightie for match up and defense)

Also hopefully Happ can go 6 or 7 and Toronto won't try to pitch Cecil again...
