Miesha Tate will defend her women's bantamweight title for the first time at UFC 200 when she meets Amanda Nunes in one of the featured bouts on July 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The news was confirmed via "UFC Tonight" on Wednesday.

It's huge news for Tate, who defeated Holly Holm in March to win her first UFC championship since joining the roster in 2013.

Rousey isn't expected back in action until November or December, and rather than sit Tate on the shelf for several months, she will get to defend her belt this summer instead.

For Nunes this opportunity comes after three consecutive victories and a 5-1 record since joining the UFC.

The Brazilian bantamweight most recently defeated Valentina Shevchenko by unanimous decision at UFC 196, which came one fight after she submitted Olympic silver medalist and former title challenger Sara McMann.

Nunes has been champing at the bit for a title shot since her last win, and now she'll get her chance. Tate vs. Nunes joins a growing roster of UFC 200 fights, including the main event between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz as well as an interim featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar.

I like Nunes here. I called for her as a legit chance as the one that could beat Ronda, so I'll roll she can with Cupcakes as well. Highly improved each time out, and think she can here as well...wouldn't that be something, looks like the Women's 135 title may stay put almost forever, and then it switches hands 2x in 2 fights....easily could...

Holly screwed up the biggest rematch of the year. Should've waited for Rhonda
