When is he eligible to be a UFA?

Don't follow baseball too closely but if Stanton got 10/330 then I would think 350-375? Not sure.

Trout will get the same won't he?

Trout already signed a 10 year deal I believe.
Harper gonna get so much jack it might make people quit playing football.

Trout signed for 6/145 last year so he's gonna be awhile

Trout 6/144 in 2014. He had 2 years left of arbitration before hitting FA.

Don't really understand how all that arbitration stuff works in MLB but obviously he wasn't a FA.

Will Harper be a FA when his next deal comes like Stanton, Cabrera were going to be?

Trout gave up a little bit of leverage later on to get a bigger contract sooner.

You can't become a complete FA until year 6.

Thats normally when you start making the huge money in MLB but since Trout is such a special player they gave him huge money after year 4 at a slight discount.

So trout makes less money then he could have got if he waited 2 more years but at the same time he gets to make a lot more then he would have 2 years early.

Its a trade off for both sides.

The teams pays him more then they have to 2 years early .

And trout takes less then he could have got later but gets real money before year 6 if that makes sense.

Arbitration is a 1 year deal sort of like a franchise tag in football after year 4 or 5.

The player goes to court with a 1 year figure that he thinks he's worth , the team also has a 1 year figure then an arbitrator decides which side is right and gets a 1 year deal.

Genreally both players and teams try to avoid arbitration.

i think he goes to arbitration next year and will probably jump from 7.5 million to 18 to 20 mil.

if he stays healthy, he's probably the mvp again this year.

So there is a good chance Harper will just do what Trout does. Granted he'll still get a lot more than 144 but it won't be a free market deal.

you don't think he'll just take about 20 mil per year in arbitration for the next 2 years and then go FA ?

Maybe so I think he is still the youngest or 2nd youngest player in baseball.

He is younger now then when trout played is first game

Ok yeah, that sounds like the pathway.

Why didn't Trout just do that?

don't know.. maybe my numbers are off. maybe their is a limit someone can get in arbitration. don't think so though.

he should get best player in baseball dollars.

Yeah, like I said its been awhile since I've followed baseball so I forget how that stuff works. I'm pretty sure you don't just get 20 million in arbitration. Otherwise more guys would just let the process play out.

Pedroia took a below market deal with the Sox after his MVP season because of this IIRC.

ya, but a possible 2 time MVP isn't just gonna go from 7.5 mil to 10 or 12. maybe 15 . will be interesting. i want him to be a free agent soon and sign with the Tigers.

Yeah I'm sure the info is avail how that works. Just don't know anything about it.

If you could just crush the arbitration then I doubt Trout would've settled.

If they're paying pitchers 30 a year then I'm sure those guys will get 35. Maybe defer some of it.
